hey guys I have a 2010 dodge nitro SE and I am going to get a lift kit at some point and was wondering which kit would be best? I want a 2.5-3" and I would like to fit 27" tires.. I am planning to take off the black part of the front bumper and to cut the part of the front bumper where my fog lights are to create more room, possibly even trim the fender flares too, would that be possible? And which lift kit would you recommend?
JBA Off-road (Jeepin By Al) makes a great lift kit for the Nitro. Myself, as well as a few other owners here have installed it and very pleased with the stance and performance.
There's not a whole lot that can be done about the tire size however, you can push up to 30.5" diameter tires before scraping the wheel wells. I believe a few people went a little larger but has to start cutting the wells and bending the factory pinch molds. I'm sure someone else will jump in with more specifics of the larger tire dilemma.

There are a few threads on the site covering aftermarket tires and rims. Here's a link to one that explains it pretty well, although most of the pics are gone.
Thank you! But what I can't seem to understand.. And I'm really trying not to sound dumb lol, does the whole 30.5" thing for the tires, does that mean like 30/75/?? Is it like that? Or would it translate to like a 26/70/??
265x70%x2=371 mm (265 width of tire in mm; 70 is 70% of the main number which equals your sidewall; 2 is the fact that you have "two" sidewalls on a tire measuring on the diameter).
Then take 371 mm and convert to inches = 14.61 inches according to Google's converting tool.
Add the 14.61 inches to your wheel diameter (17" in this case) and you get 31.61 inches.
In this case too large for a Nitro without bigger mods to the fenders.
JBA Adjust-A-Strut all the way for the lift! $$ but well worth it! Silver package.
The biggest issue you will have with anything over a 3.5" diameter tire is the floor board pinch welds and the floor boards. You also have to take into account the offset of the rim. OEM rim will do 30.5" by 9.75" wide tire without Mods.
What I'm still trying to comprehend is the 30.5 situation, cause you can run something that's a 245/??/?? And a 265/70r15 and it would still fit the criteria, but obviously they're way different I'm trying to understand how it would still fit
With that you are .36" wider tread width/2= .18" on each side , but .44" shorter then 30.5"(total diameter)/2= .22" on top and bottom.
It would be close on an OEM offset rim, but should work.
I can not make a 100% guarantee it will work! Only way to do that is to test fit one. Rear is no issue, it is the front that may be...
I have 265 70 17 on mine. Had to trim some of the plastic in the wells and grind down the pinch molds, not a big deal but if you can go a little smaller size, I would recommend no larger than 265 65 17
I'm running 255/70/16s and I've had to trim the wheel well and pound the pinch weld flat.
