You need a code reader, Some times a auto store will plug one and read the code for you

AutoZone and O'Reilly have scan tools that you can either use, or they will do it for you. Or, you can even buy one for around $25. I bought an OBDII reader on Amazon, that connects Bluetooth to my phone, that only cost like $25.
