2007 Dodge Nitro. My son in laws. Over a year ago it would not start. Had the TIPM replaced, drove it home from the garage, shut it off, didn't start again for an entire year. I had the car towed to my garage and have been working on it. I have done several hard and soft resets on the car. I finally ordered a rebuilt PCM, and installed it. Started right up, and starts every time. The trouble is, it won't throttle up over 2000 RPM. I have thoroughly cleaned the throttle body. I have read a lot about "relearning" the throttle body. I have tried several different methods, several times. Does not help. I have read that the throttle works in conjunction with the ESP, (electronic stability program). That indicator light, and the check engine light, are always on.
My question is: Is there a way to bypass the ESP system entirely, so the throttle body can operate independently from it?
Thanks in advance for any and all suggestions. Greg

have you put the original TIPM back in ?,
there is a solution to bypassing the ESP, i will try and find it for you, but i don't think it is going to help your throttle issue,

I got the car started, and seems to be running fine, although I have not taken it for a test drive yet. I don't have the original TIPM to reinstall. I did put the original PCM back in, so the replacement will be going back for a refund.
I found out from my son in law, this whole mess started when he ran out of gas. Everything went downhill from there. He had the TIPM replaced by a shop. It ran until he went to start it again, that was the end of it. The throttle issue I believe I have corrected. It will throttle up just fine. (sitting in my garage, of course) I did a relearn on the throttle body. I watched you tube videos on this. Every one has their own method it seems. I found one that apparently worked, But I don't remember which one it was.
After all this mess started, the windshield wipers would not work. They still don't. This has me puzzled. I have 12V going to the wire, until I plug the windshield wiper motor into it, and then it's gone. It does not blow a fuse. It simply vanishes. THAT'S the part that has me puzzled.o_O I can run the motor by running 12V directly to it, low, or high. But not through the switch on the steering column. He says they worked fine before he ran out of gas. I have tried everything I can think of. My next option is to run wires to the cab, and install a DPDT switch.

your windshield wipers are not working because of the new TIPM, in the early days Dodge recalled the early Nitro's for a fault with the wipers and basicly the wipers where disconected at the TIPM and some additional relays where installed to the inner wing, i will try and find some info for you,

I scanned the instructions. for a bit. I am now convinced a DPDT switch in the cab is the way to go. At some point, someone has replace the wiper motor in this car, and the wiring harness that is on it, The colors do not match the Nitro wiring diagram at all.

Thank You for your help. It is greatly appreciated. :giggle:

P.S. I forgot to mention, my son in law got this TIPM from ebay. The TIPM part # ends in AH indicating it neede to be upgraded. I doubt that it was.

the AH does not mean it needs upgrading, its just indicates the revision model, the revision could have been anything from a change in the plastic housing design to a change in the materials used and obviously the programming, But AH may not be compatible with your Nitro, as a general rule the used TIPM should have come out of the same year, engine transmisson, and options
for the TIPM to work correctly you need it reprogramming wth the correct chassis number, correct options your nitro has, they will also program it for the wipers,
a switch on the dash will work, but its not going to be the best job in the world,
anyways for the switch its not a DPDT switch you need, its 2 speed rocker or 2 speed rotory switch,

I ended up installking a switch in the cab. All I really needed was a SPDT with center off, in order to get high/low speed. All I had on hand was a 4PDT w/center off, so that's what I used. There is no intermittent setting of course, but at least the wipers will function.

As a side note, this seems like a really nice little car. I wouldn't mind having one myself, but not this one. It has a few too many little bugs in it. When the shop replaced the TIPM, they broke 2 of the clamp mechanisms that hold the wiring cables on to the TIPM. I suspect this might become a problem someday. Also, the drivers side rear window regulator broke. The pulley at the top where the cable runs, became sloppy, and the cable came off. I noticed there was no pulley at the bottom, just a simple slide mechanism for the cable. I did pretty much the same thing for the top. I used a small piece of round steel stock the correct diameter, and cut a 1/16" groove all the way around it. I drilled and tapped the cylinder in 3 places, and fastened it in place using 3 machine screws. It does not turn of course, the cable simply slides around it. The window is operating for now. I guess we will see how long it holds up.
