18-027-08 REV. A Flash: Torque Converter Shudder Or Erratic AC Performance Or AC Intermittently Blow

Take note all 2007 Nitro owners this bulletin now includes your vehicle. Once again another PCM reprogram to address torque converter shudder. I did this flash yesterday to my 2007. So far I need more drive time to report my findings.

I made an appointment earlier today to do the original TSB 18-028-08 tomorrow morning. now I will make sure they do the revised TSB 18-028-08 REV instead.
Fingers crossed, hope it works!

Well folks after some time driving my Nitro with this latest flash, I dare say there have been some positive changes. I'm not 100% convinced and will give it more time. A few weeks. But I recommend those 2007 Nitro owners with the 3.7L auto transmission to go get this flash done if you are experiencing the shudder problem. Also, I think it should be pointed out that for this TSB to be effective you would have to have the latest torque converter that's available installed. Replacement of the torque converter was pointed out in another previous TSB.

I'm somewhat pleased with the changes made with this flash. Give it a try.

What about those of us with the 2008 4-speed auto??? Does this Flash not apply to us?

It covers both 2007 and 2008 models. I had the TSB done on Thursday. Jury is still out for me, must give it more time. One disturbing thing, when I first got it back, was that my Nitro shuddered when shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd (not smooth shifts)......never did that before. I think (hope) that problem is going away the more I drive it. I will check back in a few weeks with the latest StarSCAN update to my Nitro.

had my 2007 in last week, it had the new torqe ist in june, still shudder, re flash seems to have cured the problem, tho first day out of dealer very harsh 1 2 shift. that seems to be self cured, also shudder in revers on grade rectified.( i must thank nitro teck) as the dealer when first approched was cold to doing any thing until i showed him the tb. it is to bad that chrysler and there dealers have to be brow beaten to fix these problems.i have fought my problems for over 1 year, the only issue left is the heater. cliff

Yeah, and it's sad that we have to figure out the problem amongst ourselves, then print out the TSB to show to the Service Department to convince them!

this sucks

Hi all just got back our nitro for the 7th time for the shutter had the torque converter done 6th time didn't work. This time I called Dodge and spoke with there customer support team. what a joke they were nice as could be said they had no problem doing the buy back process but wanted there regional tech. to check it out. So i agreed to have him try ti fix this. He test drove our car and stated "per chrysler rep. no problem found with vehicle. When shutter ocurs trasnsmission in in lock up for better fuel economy, normal condition. To eliminate this put transmision in tow mode."

So this better fuel economy we've been getting 14-16 if were lucky. I hate this car and Dodge. I'm so disapointed that I bought this junk and am treated like an idiot. I know I'm not the only getting the run around but the rep didn't even sugest another tq or the newest TSB right here and the site. And to top it off because he decided to drive around for an hour if that and decide to say there is nothing wrong they will not proceed with the buy back. I hope this company folds like wall street. On a possative note this site is great and is why I bought the nitro in the first place. If anyone can help please let me know.

A month after having the newest TSB done, there is no change with my Nitro with regard to the shudder problem between 40 and 50 mph.

Well, mine rarely shudders any more, seems to only do so when I'm stepping on the gas at the same time the TC is deciding to engage.

Still shifts WAAAAAAAAAAAAY to soon.

So annoying ... as if the Decision Makers decided to ignore terrain changes when approving the programming for the 4-speed auto trannys. Flat and Level. Flat and Level. Flat and Level. Hills? What hills???

BE AWARE!!! Flash does not always work...

I am an owner of a 2007 Nitro with about 3000 miles and have been dealing with this problem since the first week of ownership. Nitro has been in the shop numerous times. Dealership attempted the flash, replaced fluid, AND HAVE NOW REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION!!! Shudder is still present when vehicle is between 40 and 45 mPH.

Y'know, if Chrysler would only figure out that the torque converter engages waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy to soon, and adjusted the shift point up to a reasonable level, a lot of this shudder problem would go away, or at least become less frequent.

Sorry for your pains with your Nitro, rohwdog ... I've been there, just not as often. My 4-speed tranny issues are at least "mostly tolerable". Sad thing, is "tolerable" is just not right. We should be happy with how our rigs operate, rather than having to grind our teeth all the time!

Which rev of TSB do I have?

Nitro good, tranny bad! It seems like there are so many of us that have had a solid middle finger presentation from Chrysler/Dodge/FU regarding this transmission shudder. I have had my torque converter replaced, and the problem has become so much worse, similar to many here on the forum.

HOW DOES An OWNER find out which the latest tranny TSB rev has been applied?

I'm told that the resolution results depend on whom you have to deal with in your area. Whether its the Chrysler District Rep. or a Chrysler attorney some are easier to deal with than others. Some owners have had buybacks with very little dispute or litigation and others get nothing but the one finger salute!! There is no actual cure for the shudder so they should just do what's necessary to satisfy those of us that won't accept their patchwork attempts to fix it. While I wait for a court date I need to keep bringing it in for repair attempts,so yesterday I stop by a local dealer to make an appt. & service writer puts in my info & says sorry but Chrysler won't pay them to work on the trans. shudder. Oh well,so I sit & wait for court. The shudder in mine also got worse after the convertor replacement & after each of 3 flashes.

It is important to do the "Drive it like you stole it" Relearn procedure. Mine still rumbled afterwards then i disconnected the battery to reset the memory. Then did that procedure and havent felt a thing since.
