So any more news on this new reflash? I am scheduled to get it done on Nov 11th. Is it worth it or is it going to make it worst?
I was in for normal servicing today and they decided to do the new flash. Whoopee! Now I have a shudder in First to Second I never had before. The tech spent over an hor trying to do a correction with no luck. My torque converter was changed previously. Also seemed to use a bit more gas on the way home but won't know any difference from my usual poor 14 to 16 mpg average for mixed driving (18mpg on highway only) until next fillup.

Thanks for the info....I'm cancelling my appointment tomorrow!

Re-Boot the Computer

It is important to do the "Drive it like you stole it" Relearn procedure. Mine still rumbled afterwards then i disconnected the battery to reset the memory. Then did that procedure and havent felt a thing since.

Thanks zmass,
I did the battery disconnect for two minutes , re-hooked it back up and my nitro came back with a new life, shifts better than ever, hope it is ok now. The alarm beeped and scared me to death to LOL

I guess the techs at the dodge dealer never did this is why it was never fixed right before.

Hey when you guys talk about the transmission shuttering what exactly do you mean. I have taken my nitro several times to the dealership due to the transmission making a whinning noise until you reach 30 mph. They have replaced the torque converter but other than that say there is nothing else wrong. Could use someones input. thanks

Check this post about a whine. There have been at least 2 others with loose bolts.
Here is a description of the shutter, another post 24-27.

So can this "shutter" problem be fixed be disconecting the batteryon the R/T models? I have an 08 R/T with 18000 km, and at about 100 kph (60mph) when the trany goes into 5th I have an anoying shake or shutter.

I have read most of the posts about the TC "shuttering" but did not see anybody post it about an R/T model.

Please advise.

This TSB only applies to the SXT / SLT models with the 4 speed auto tranny. Have you checked your wheels for balance? Just a thought.

Had the flash done Friday 17th and took at most 20 min. I notice a differance already but they assured me that if I was not satisfied they would replace the torque converter.
I shall see over the next few weeks how she goes.....

Just had my tires re-balanced and its a new Nitro again!

I had a "shake" in the vehicle that I thought was something to do with the TC shuttering, especially after reading all the horror problems that some people are having, but I took your advise spent $100.00 (including oil change) and had it fixed in less then an hour.

What a great forum this is! Even though my problem was an easy fix, its still great to have a site that can help you with just about any problem big or small!

Cheers!

my 07 nitro had some hard shifting issues took it to dodge an they did the computer update which didnt fix problem so next step was to replace torque convertor. it did seem to help the problem but to my mechanic boyfriend something still wasnt right. a bad shutter coming from trans between 40-50. so its back and dodge today and the verdict is seal kit, front pump, valve body and another torque convertor. i think sooner or later its gonna need a trans and there just hoping its out of warranty before that happens.....so it all just a heads up on my lastest adventure with the my nitro

I also had a new torque converter installed on my 2007 SXT this November. It seemed better, but of course it still shutters at my favorite mph 42. I'm contemplating bringing it back again. Awillien please post your results of your latest adventure. =^..^=

Well, since the most recent flash on my SXT (with 4-speed auto), the torque converter doesn't engage at all in 3rd any more, and the TC isn't quite so quick to engage in 4th.

I don't get a shudder, and haven't for a long time, but the rig is still wanting to drop into Overdrive (TC lock in 4th) at 42mph which drops the RPMs to an unacceptable 1200. (This tends to cause the engine to lug and labor, but it's not the same issue as the TC shudder ... the TC seems to engage well.) But I can get around this by using the totally inconvenient (and inappropriately named) Tow/Haul switch. Of course, this also puts me back in 3rd (with no TC lock) until I hit about 55 ... then I get 4th (with no TC lock).

I'm finally ready to accept the status quo ... the rig shifts adequately (if I'm willing to do the work-around using the T/H mode) ... and I'm finally accepting the idea that Chrysler ain't doing anything to "fix" the issue. I've bought a poorly designed rig, and that's ultimately my fault.

Bottom line, there are so many things to like about my Nitro ... the looks, the ride, the handling, the space inside. The engine is adequate, the mileage is okay, and I can live with the transmission and the keyless remote with the 5-foot range.

It's still a keeper!!!

Guys the torque converter is not the problem!! Go find a set of rumble strips on the highway and drive over them, unless you're experiencing that kind of vibration the transmission is not shuddering. If you're feeling a vibration around 60-80kms and your engine RPMs are down around 1200-1300 its the engine vibrating!!!

The problem is solely in the programming of the transmission. Torque converters, valve bodies, and complete transmission assemblies with not fix this problem.

The 42RLE transmission works this way to meet emissions regulations.
