Last year I went to Tireman to buy winter tires for my 2010 Nitro Detonator 4x4. Its rear wheel drive therefore they discussed it and agreed it's okay to put them on the rear. I drove it through the Ohio winter and used my 4 wheel drive a few times. Spring came and I bought 2 new all season/touring and had them put on the rear and stored my winter tires. Tireman said they would swap them out for free whenever the time comes so I went in 2 days ago to have them re-install only 2 winter tires again on the rear and the discussion began that I needed 4 winter tires or I may mess up my transfer case. Then they agreed it's ok to only put them on the rear but suggested to me to not use 4 wheel drive. Is it ok or not to only have 2 winter tires on the rear and still use the 4 x 4 or not???

as long as all your tires are the same size you should be fine, obviously winter tires have more grip so it makes sense to put them on all 4 wheels, just less chance of getting stuck in mud and snow,
a Nitro's 4WD system must only be used on slippery surfaces ie: snow, gravel etc,
under no circumstances use 4WD on tarmac,
