Hi -

I'm new here - I recently bought an '07 Nitro SXT from a friend. It has a ton of highway miles - 229k. It had sat pretty much unused for the past 3 years. I've been driving it for a week now, and it has always started with no problems. About a week ago, it developed a problem where once running, the oil light indicator would stay on. If I shut it off and re-started the engine, the light would go out almost immediately (and would stay out). I should mention that this problem started the day after I changed the oil and filter.

This past Saturday, I replaced the oil pressure switch with an Echlin unit form NAPA. It outwardly looked identical to the original. In order to access the switch, I had to remove the battery, the upper horn assembly, the air box, and the surge/wsw solvent tank.

Replacement was not too difficult, but the wire coming out of the oil pressure switch connector was bent at an extreme 180 degree angle, so I did gently tug on the wire loom protecting it to give it a little more length at the connector. Other than that, I reassembled everything and jumped in to start it to see if the oil light would go out (and check for leaks), and the engine wouldn't crank. I checked the battery voltage which was a little low at 12.28 volts, so I put the battery on a 1 1/2 amp trickle charger overnight.

I re-installed the battery yesterday and same thing, the engine will not crank. I have headlights, the lock/unlock buttons on the key are working, all the dash lights come on, but the engine will not crank. I've tried starting it in both Park and Neutral, to no avail. I have noticed that sometimes the 4WD indicator is lit on the dash, sometimes it's not. I also tried pulling the J13 fuse and waited ten seconds, then re-installed. Still won't crank. So I'm appealing to this forum in the hope that someone can help me sort this problem out.

Put the original oil sensor back in. See if it will start. If it does, get an OEM sensor.
Cause of the light coming on could be the filter you used. Could try a different brand filter.
I personally have not had this on my rig. So just some suggestions to try...

The oil filter I installed was a Mopar filter that I bought at the Dodge dealer. I considered re-installing the original oil pressure switch - I'll give it a try and see what happens. Thanks for your suggestions!

Keep us posted. Strange the light started coming on right after an oil change.
Did you use SAE 5W-20 oil? And a dumb question, but I have to ask, is it full of oil?

Last night I replaced the NAPA oil pressure switch with the original - engine still won't crank. I put the NAPA switch back in. There is a grounding stud on the driver's side fenderwell that has several wires going to it; they were badly corroded and we had trouble with them affecting the BTSI/shifter operation. The starter relay may also be grounded there, so I'm shifting my focus to cleaning all the ground wire terminals and making sure they have a good ground.

Bummer, was hoping it was the sensor.
You can also pull and test the relays if it is not the ground.
K1= Run/Accy
K2= Run
K3= Starter Solenoid
K4= Start/Run
K10= ASD (Auto Shut Down)

Thanks for the relay info. I had the battery load tested yesterday, and it failed. I installed a new one, but it didn't help with the "no crank" problem. The previous owner is coming over tonight to help me try to sort this thing out.

Your welcome.
On the passenger side firewall, by the trany dipstick tube, is a grounding strap. It goes from the firewall to the trany/ bell housing, at the block.
Check that out as well.

I'm both relieved and embarrassed to report that a wire was pulled off of the starter solenoid when I replaced the oil pressure switch. Once re-connected, it fired right up. And the new oil pressure switch works! Thanks for your help.
