So with the introduction of the 2008 Caravan there is also a new Radio. This new Radio (REN) is basically the same as the MyGIG but is non-navigation. The unit looks identical to the MyGIG. I haven't seen details on the capacity of the hard drive but it lists having the ability to store 2500 songs - same as the MyGIG. Anyways, I did some searching and came up with some part numbers. I have yet to see if the electrical connectors are the same as in the Nitro, but what I did see are the same 22 and 10 way connectors. Also of interest is this unit is capable of using the factory back-up camera. So this may become another option for us Nitro owners. If I find out more info one was or the other I'll post it here.

Part numbers that I've come up with so far are as follows:

05064243AI RADIO, AM/FM/DVD/HDD/MP3/RR CAMERA
05064245AI RADIO, AM/FM/DVD/HDD/MP3/SDARS/RR CAMERA, [REN,RSC]

And from what I've seen these units are significantly cheaper then the MyGIG.

I really want to have the back-up camera in my Nitro! we have to find a way to integrate this into our existing MyGiG systems some how. we have some members here who do amazing things with computers and video screens, there must be a way to do this?

Waldorf.....your R/T has the MyGIG? If so, do you use the NAV much? If the NAV is something you don't need maybe once all the details are available on these new radios you can sell the MyGIG. Then buy the new REN with the back-up camera and wire it up.

You know what guys!!

I have been using my GPS to drive back and forth from work becasue I always know how far I have to go and easy to tell the wife when I will be home or not. But then I do go 140KM one way so it may be different for a 5 min drive:SHOCKED:

I have also used it once for an alternate route due to construction.

Just my 2 cents worth

PS I am am planning to install a backup camera once I win my ebay auction.....gotta love ebay:smileup:

Finally installed!!

So, I finally put aside some time and installed the REN version of the MyGIG. The radio is true Plug and Play. The unit doesn't have the NAV and comes with a 30GB hard drive. Approximately 17GB available for music/picture files.

Nice factory upgrade for under $1000. :)

Hi NitroTech,

Is this radio plug and play with other MYGIG radios or all of the radios? I have the single disc/MP3/SAT and steering wheel controls radio in my Nitro. Will this new radio plug directly into my Nitro? Will I still get my SAT function? Does it play DVDs? I'm really liking this new radio because I don't want NAV, just space for my music, but want the MYGIG style of radio.

Any help will be great.

Yes it's direct plug and play. In my first post I have listed the radio part numbers with and without SAT (SDAR) radio. Mine doesn't have the steering controls but considering they are a function over the BUS it likely will still work. Hope this helps.

NitroTech,
Okay...my father bought one of those Grand Caravans with the REN. He just bought a RER and I planned on taking his REN. So, what you're saying is that it WILL work in my Nitro with no problems, right? His Caravan does have the back-up feature and I do not...that gonna be a problem?

Thanks,
Tim
