I saw in a recent magazine what I thought was a Nitro but there was something wrong with it, it had a Jeep grill and the caption said that it was the new 2008 Liberty. Does anyone have any information on this? I think that it would be good for Jeep to have a bigger vehicle but not if it is going to hurt Nitro sales/resales. Unforunately I cannot remember the name of the magazine but it was a silver looking vehicle. Any information is greatly appreciated.:smiledown:

Your Nitro is based on the new Liberty. If there were no Liberty, you would not have a Nitro. The Liberty is slightly shorter overall from the dimensions that I have seen. It is also more off road able.

This is true, but the new Liberty is supposed to be more Nitro-esq in it's design and size, this is what I'm asking about.

One thing i can tel you, is the nitro is based upon the liberty....beside a few things like different t cases and rear suspension, and some size spects, they are the same...
It is in my opinon, they chrysler released the nitro first to see how the waters were...i do know that some of the kj liberty owners are a little red in the face over the new design

Haven't seen one at our dealership yet. Really surprised nothing yet. Tons of 2008 Caravans though. Kinda like the new vans. No more Jelly bean look.

there kinda hard to come by... mine has been sitting in d status for 3 weeks now and still no movement... right now in colorado, there are about 30 libertys of which only 1 is a manual....

Maybe now there will be a better selection of brush guards for our beloved Nitro's since Jeep is changing its appearance.

Well, the dealer I went by yesterday had 2 sitting on the lot.

they look better in person than they do in the pictures, some would say the same about our beloved Nitros as well.

I snapped this with my cell.. I know it isn't great but profilewise it is of course very close to the nitro.

For me the nitro is still the preference by far. Peeking inside, it looked of course familiar.

Has anyone heard if it will come with the 4.0L R/T engine?

I think they look pretty good, and if they come with a 4.0L/Manual 6 speed trans/AND 4wd w/2speed transfer case/AND all the bells and whistles that my Nitro R/T has I might be interested in trading my beloved R/T in for one (of course it would have to come in Sunburst Orange too!)

I've tried to dig into why this is and I've read (can't find th articles) that the 4.0 is a low capacity motor, and that it isn't set up as of now to mate up to a low range case. On one hand it is only seemingly in the pacifica and nitro R/t so that jives.. the 4.0 mates to the 5 speed mercedes knock off so maybe that jives.. But I'm no expert.. Not sure how TRUE any of these things are.

capacity in that they are limited in how many they can make.

The 5 speed auto we have should be basically the a580 that is a mercedes derived piece, found in the lx cars, not a truck based peice you'd expect to have a low range transfer case with.

I think they are bum-ugly... the original Liberties and the new concept ones.. I dont like them and think its a mistake..... just my opinion....
