Chrysler Shows Off 2008 Dodge Vehicles

DETROIT — DaimlerChrysler AG's Chrysler Group plans to show off a trio of 2008 model Dodge vehicles Tuesday, including the new Avenger midsize sedan, a revamped Magnum wagon and a souped-up version of its Viper sports car seething with 600 horsepower.

They follow the unveiling of the new Caravan minivans Sunday at the North American International Auto Show. And they come on the heels of recent Dodge additions such as the Caliber and Nitro.

"The Dodge Avenger brings ... assertive attitude and bold styling to the competitive midsize sedan segment," George Murphy, senior vice president for global marketing, said in a statement.

The starting price for the Avenger is $18,895. It will be in U.S. showrooms in the first three months of this year and in other markets by mid-2007.
The Avenger is being built in Sterling Heights.

The restyled Magnum lineup will be built in Brampton, Ontario, starting late this summer and will reach dealerships in the fourth quarter.

For the sports car set, Dodge is rolling out the 600 horsepower Viper SRT10. With an 8.4-liter V-10 engine, Chrysler says the new Viper can go from zero to 60 miles per hour in under four seconds.

"The 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10 delivers die-hard performance enthusiasts a perfect combination of outrageous power, exceptional performance and stunning good looks," said Mike Accavitti, director of Dodge Motorsports and SRT Marketing and Product Planning.

The new SRT10 will arrive in North American showrooms this summer with a new level of customization options, including five new exterior colors, four new interior color combinations and a new wheel design.
The new Viper is being hand-built in Detroit.
