What it the 4th connector(closest to the firewall) on the ECM used for?

On my 6-speed 3.7L SXT it is empty, yet a member PM'd me to say that it was connected on his 3.7L SLT. Is it possible that this is only used for the automatic?

Kind of puzzling.

you must have some other options on your rig that I don't. do you have the rear entertainment system? how about remote start or Mopar alarm system? what other options do you have?

It must be for the automatic transmission, I should have noted that in my post. SXT, 3.7L, automatic

I was the one who PM'd KenCaryabout the 4th connector, because he was helping me out with the Jet Chip. I have a 2008 and I think a few of the people who answered above have the 2007. We also have different trim levels. So the questiom is what do the three of us have in common? I have the sunroof, the six disk CD and satellite. What do the ones who have the 4th connector have as options that might explain the 4th connector? My money is on the sunroof.

well, I don't really know. I have a sunroof, I have MyGiG, I have the R/T trim level. I don't have factory alarm or remote start or rear entertainment system.

Alright you guys crack me up. Just ask, this stuff isn't mysterious!! Ken, the PCM in your Nitro only uses the 3 connectors because it is a 6spd. The 3.7L use the NGC (Next Generation Controller) which combined the engine and transmission controller. As for the 4.0L engine is uses the same PCM, the NGC, but the #4 spot is empty because the NAG1 transmission uses it own separate controller.

The PCM (NGC) has nothing to do with interior options (sunroof, MYGIG, SAT radio), all these components have separate computer modules that control their functions.

Very interesting.

Does that mean that to reprogram shift points one can't do this via a program change to the ECM in the RT? Or does the RT tranny take some sort of data stream from the ECM?

can the Jet chip go in the 4th connector, or does it have to piggyback the 3rd?
