Ok, performance upgrade time. Now I've never done a CAI upgrade before, but I do know why I'm upgrading. I just don't know which CAI to purchase as far as best bang for the dollar. Anyone want to chime in? Thanks in advance!

AEM

I like the AEM. Had the K&N on my jeep and my H3 and I didnt like that I had to oil the filter, you have to be on the money with the oiling . Too much gets all over too little doesnt work as well. AEM is a dry filter I like it better. As far as performance they are about the same! JMO good luck!

Having not to oil it, and being "on the money with oiling" as rossmore said, is exactly the one thing that sways me from K&N.

Check this thread for everthing you need to know on this subject.

Note the highly restrictive baffle on the 3.7. For this reason, a drop-in K&N filter will not perform as well as a CAI that removes this baffle.

AEM or K&N probably produce about the same gain. There is no rocket science here. I have installed both and I think the K&N has a little bit better fit and finish than the AEM. I also am partial to the oil-wetted replaceable filter. I've had them for years and they filter well and don't need to be replaced. The oil process is very simple.

Drop in K&N and a cat back..save the money. I had a CAI and a drop in on my last truck and noticed no differance in the 2. My nitro with a drop in and a magnaflow is cool and big improvment in the MPG...Just my 2 cents
Scott, that 2 cents is VERY valuable. I just don't want anything that has to be oiled all the time.

You only need to clean & oil the K&N every 10,000 miles under normal conditions.

Washing the filter takes a bit of time, but you don't need to go out and buy a new filter. Oiling is a 2 minute job at best. The oil comes in a spray can and is dyed red so that you can easily see how much you put on.

If you drive on dusty country roads like I sometimes do, an oiled filter is a better choice as it can easily be cleaned off like new after eating a bunch of dust.

I do agree it is a easy process to oil but....you do have to wash the K&N and wait for it to dry, most times overnight. I have them in all my vehicles and also use them racing, but I do keep my old stock filter around to put in for the drying time. Over oiling is the worst problem on these. All said I wouldn't get ride of my filters for anything, the benifits out way the work.

I have the 4.0L K&N CAI and i REALLLY felt the power....
It adds 9 HP and about 1 mpg.
Sounds beastly too when you let it hit 4,000 RPM

And for the cleaning, I mean if you want nice stuff you have to take care of it. You go to pep boys and buy the cleaning kit for $15 and take 10 mins out of your day once every 3 months to clean your damn filter. Really not difficult at all. As Ken said it is a red dye so it is hard to mess up.

The K&N also has a fatter, beafier look to it than the AEM. Looks nice when you pop the hood.

Another thing is the K&N is an American made product, which I prefer.

Did I help or ramble too much?
haha

I appreciate everyone comments so far, and want to thank you all again! I do like K&N air filters, I actually had one on a scooter now that I remember :D(by the way, it made that sucker very fast!), however, I don't like the idea of the oil cleaning , even if it's every 3 months or whatever. With that said, I went and purchased an AEM BF, that I'm sure will look just as good under the hood as a K&N! Thanks again, everyone! BTW, got the AEM brand new off ebay for $170 shipped.:Racing:

I am currently in the process of deciding between the K&N or the AEM for my Nitro (3.7L) I have heard that AEM is the company that supplies the Mopar CAI's. And I have also heard the the fit and finish on the Mopar units is much better than the K&N, as well as the AEM now has a oiled filter (blue) just like the K&N. Can anyone conform or deny this. Otherwise I think I will just be going with the AEM as it is cheaper than the K&N (only 10 bucks) but cheaper nonetheless.

I have the AEM Brute Force CAI and the filter I got was white and not the oiled kind. Can't comment on the blue filters.

I just ordered the 77 series K&N. In my opinion, the oiled filter will work much better than the dry filter from AEM. Plus the red filter matches my red Nitro!!:chuckle::chuckle: I think when choosing it would be consumer preference. They probably are pretty equal in fit, performance, and cost. No use splitting hairs too much. My .02

I think you are right in your assumptions about performance. I wanted a K&N but at the time (Oct-Nov 2007) they hadn't come out with the 4.0L engine model yet, so I went with the AEM Brute Force.
