My vehicles has been making a humming/whistling sound from under the hood. I recently took it to get check out and they first put a new alternator on it, however that did not fix the noise. I took it back in and they are now saying that it is the air conditioner compressor. Is anyone having the same problem or does anyone have any suggestions???

My A/C compressor is not running

My A/C has not worked since day one. Actually I first tried it after 4 or 5 days. I picked up my 2008 on Oct 25, 2007. It's chilly by then in Michigan so I figured I'd look into it this spring. Now it's 70 degrees and I want A/C. It still doesn't work. I've read all the TSBs on the A/C. It's not the serpentine belt. I think I've just got a bad compressor. The clutch doesn't kick in when the A/C is switched on. Both the high and low pressure lines are ambient temperature. Checked the connector and fuse and they're both okay. Guess I'm taking it in. I'm an amateur driveway mechanic so I thought I'd try all the tricks up my sleeve before I take it in. Bummer.

Update June 16, 2008: I took it in. Dealer put freon in it said it had none. I said "Does it leak?" "No we checked it". Two days later....no A/C again! Took it back in. Tests showed a bad compressor. Installed new compressor and it's worked beautifully for a month now, ice cold!
