Ok so I read pretty well all the fourm threads that talk about the remote start problems. I'm new and ofcourse bought my Nitro and said hey install a remote start system in it and we have a deal....well 2 months later and 3 trips to the dealer and still not hooks up.

It is a mopar remote start....the book shows K6859219, and it has the 2 small fobs. The first attempt to install...failed and they had to order some sort of install kit...ok the second attempt the messed with that trying to make it work for another day and a half. Now they say it can't be done...and I have to wait for their tech assist to figure it out...with now known end time of a fix.

So question is is the sticky regarding the fix, actually the fix to this or is there another issue?? Do I wait or is there an aftermarket route that I can have Dodge take....and do the aftermarket ones get around all the problems that the mopar one has?

Please, give me some help on this.....mind you I do love my Nitro....

Thanks,

John

have you stomped your feet and threatened to hold your breath until you pass out? it usually works for me...lol, just kidding I do not have an answer for you just wanted to lighten you up and put a smile on your face. I hope this is resolved soon...I could come up there and do the stomping if you think it will help. :FIREdevil:

Mine's fine too but you can come up here and stomp any time..;)
I knew if I talked about giving someone the beat-down you would come out....lol

so is the remote start after factory or was it an option/condition when purchasing the nitro?

It's not a factory install....too bad for me.....it is a dealer install with mopar parts......well it's should be if they can get it working. By all means come on up and stomp around the local dealer.lol...

Looks like I lost the Nitro to my wife....hmmm, it was to be a replacement for my 05 ranger....so much for that plan....but I do have to say I do enjoy the Nitro.

cheers,

John

Back on track......

:threadjacked: Alright to shed some light on the remote start situations I'm going tell a little story and it will answer your questions.

First, there is an update kit for the Nitro. It is a wiring harness that plugs in-between the remote start main install harness and the SKIM interface module.

Ok, here's the story. I installed a remote start in a 2007 Chrysler Sebring, and then a Caravan. The Caravan worked great, the Sebring would not go into programming mode. Several DNA module were tried and finally a working one was found and the system was programmed. Then a few days later I installed another Caravan remote start. It would not program. I tried again several DNA modules as well as 2 main brain modules. It would not work. So I then found out that Mopar technical assistance says there are defective DNA modules that have been shipped but they don't know how many or where they are. They will not work. The DNA module I did eventually get for the Caravan I was having problems with, I noted that the part number on the label was different from the ones I was having problems with.

My advice. Remove the entire remote start, harness, modules, all of it. Get a new install kit and modules, with the update harness. Send the defective remote start back to Mopar technical assistance.

Waldorf, it wasn't the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last. Not to discourage anyone from installing a remote start, becuase when they work they work good, but the Mopar remote start should have been designed to install way easier.

Just to go on a little rant here. Our vehicles are already equipped with a wireless RF module. So why didn't Chrysler design an external antenna to plug into this module for a greater range for remote start?? Also, the TIPM in the vehicle is very sophisticated and is easily capable of starting the vehicle without any external modules. So, todays aftermarket remote starts from the manufacturer should be an external antenna, 2 remote fobs, and a FLASH reprogramming of the TIPM.

Light at the end of the tunnel.....sounds like the new 2008 Caravan with have a remote start system similar to the one I just described, that I, as the mechanic can install. Funny thing is we've been saying the remote starts should have been like this 2 years ago when they came out. :shakehead:

It never ceases to amaze me how a company like Chrysler can allow such a flaky remote start system to be marketed. Apparently these things are made by Audiovox, which I thought was good at this stuff. The product they are producing is junk. From what I've heard half the time they don't even know why they don't work properly. Junk!! :loser1:

Just today I was told that the remote start systems for the 2008 are gonna be different part numbers from the 2007. Also, as of now the systems are being tested, the Nitro remote start system is supposed to be available in November. Well for those that want a remote start, don't let any service department install a 2007 system.
