My problem: (very) loud static is heard when the radio is turned on after replacing antenna base mount and mast. I can't control the volume with volume knob either.

With the help of the detailed instructions in this thread :), I replaced my broken stock antenna (part number 05064164AB) with new part number 05064252AD. I have a stock single CD radio in my 2007 nitro SXT.

The original antenna came with three wire leads, white, black and mustard (see pic after I removed it). The replacement only had two, so I left the mustard colored one attached to the car as is - the other end is connected to radio. From what I understand, that is the satellite connection. I don't use satellite in the car, but not sure if leaving this unplugged could cause the static issue.

Negative battery was disconnected during install and I pulled fuse M10 after and that looks ok. I will visually recheck the connections from the base to the car in the rear, but does anyone have other suggestions to troubleshoot the static?

New antenna installed in vehicle - red wire with black cap and a white wire with white cap.
Electrical wiring Wire Cable Technology Electrical supply

Old antenna - mustard wire with mustard cap and the two caps that match the new one - mustard wire with white cap and red wire with black cap.

My assumption is that the extra wire on the old one is satellite, but could that be the cause of the static? Thx!

Try unplugging the Sat antenna at the radio.
Pull the Neg battery cable for 30 minutes (time required to reset the radio) and while it is unplugged press the power button on the radio.
