I loove the SUV its my baby :i_rolleyes:...just curious if anyone else was thinking about it.

Thanks!

I am, (but not because of gas, that is just something folks down here have to deal with, we do not have alternative transportation like the bus or being able to walk to work or ride a bike, we need vehicles and if I'm gonna be stuck in traffice for 2 hours a day then I want to do it in my nitro!!!)

No way my Wife and I are trucks and SUV people. No matter how high gas goes that is what we will always drive. The most ours has cost yet is 50 something. Are you putting in premium or something? If you are wanting to get rid of it you would be better off selling it outright.

Wow Cowboy! You got cheap gas!! Our cost on filling up is around $80 also.

We are not thinking of getting rid of our BetterBlue but we are thinking of getting a third car for several reasons but one of them is to have something that doesn't cost an arm and leg to drive to the store. :chuckle:

Anyone thinking of trading their nitro?

NO WAY!!!

Sure, fueling this puppy is gonna hurt, but it's getting better mileage than my last two rigs (a Wrangler and a Cherokee), so I'm content.

I'm hoping to hang on to this one for a while ... partly for the lifetime powertrain warranty (and the purchased coverall warranty to match) ... partly because it just looks sooooooooooooooooooooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Never!!

First of all trading in any new car is financially a bad deal. Secondly, the Nitro is quite good on gas for an SUV.

If you have to drive more than 20,000 miles/year to get to work, and you like your Nitro, go out and buy a 10-year old 4cyl stick shift car as a daily driver.

You can buy a 10-year old Saturn that gets 40 (real world) MPG on the highway for about $ 3,000.00

Well its decided, I'm definitely not trading the nitro

Lol ...it was a short thought process.

I love the nitro too much to give it up. Besides I'd rather drive a car I love versus a tiny car I will hate. And yea its way to much of a financial hit to trade it anyways. But thanks all for the input...I'm just going to have to find ways to tighten the budget.

EXACTLY!!!

I really like how roomy my Nitro is. I've taken naps in the driver's seat (when pulled over, thank you) and except for the stupid seat belt buckle, have found it to be very comfortable for a cat nap.

Then there's the legroom. I'm 6-foot-1 and actually have the seat about 2 or 3 notches forward from all-the-way-back like I'm used to ... and I can actually sit in the back seat comfortably!!! (Not like I EVER sit in the back seat ... that just means someone else is driving MY baby!)

I can't financially make a deal either, but if I could trade it off I would. I drive an awful lot & really don't need the Nitro. I do actually miss my 03 ZX3 Focus ( Ford has since totally ruined the focus). :Racing:

You yanks have the cheapest gas/petrol around. Come to OZ and pay $1.70 per litre. That works out at about $6.45 a gallon. From memory you guys pay about $4.50 a gallon?
1 litres = 0.264172052 US gallons

1 US gallon = 3.78541178 litres

I am thinking about adding LPG to mine as it is about half the price of petrol and the guvment are offering a rebate of $2,000. It will cost about $2,000 for the conversion after the rebate. The tank is a doughnut that goes where the spare wheel is, will need to think about what I am going to do with the loss of the spare. My mate has a Jeep SRT and that has run flats, maybe this is an option??

Whats up everyone.. I haven't posted here or logged on in a very LONGGGG time. I decided to stop by and see what everyone was talking about in the Nitro world. Then I saw this thread.

I thought about trading mine in, mostly due to the gas consumption. My fill ups now are about $80 like some of you. From the very start when I purchased the Nitro fuel economy was bad (14.5 - 15.5 mpg) and it has not been better, although once I was able to see about 430 miles to a tank full on a road trip with a 90-100mph average speed (that really surprised me ).

Unlike some of you wanting a smaller car to save gas. The way I feel is for the size of the Nitro and the way it "waste" gas I could be in a bigger SUV. My brother has an 07 Tahoe that he got at the same time I got the Nitro and his average mpg is about the same as mine. Not good IMO.

The only thing that stopped me from trading it in was the fact that I would be about $10,000 upside down. I guess I'm keeping it for another 3 years.

Gas prices are never a reason to trade in a NEW car. They only make sense if considering a new purchase. Don't look at your Monthly payments--- look at your 5-10year costs. Once you pay off the car-- the rest is gravy.

Also there is NO WAY that a V8 Tahoe can get the mileage of a Nitro. I have a Surburban and it uses about 2 times the gas of my Nitro.

Also don't panic, the current gas price is due to market speculators driving up the cost of gas. The actual supply of oil and gas is about same as it was a year ago.

GAS PRICES WILL GO DOWN.

Well believe it or not the Tahoe and Nitro have kept up with each other in terms of mpg (except when we pull the race car with the Tahoe). The Tahoe is a 5.3L V8 with the active fuel management. At last check /fill up the Nitro was at 15.2mpg and the Tahoe at 14.6mpg.

I do agree that people should not want to trade in due to the current gas prices, they will go down eventually. At least it's not $8.95 like race fuel.
