Has anybody there got a clue how to redirect the audible door lock alert away from the horn and onto something else? I'm thinking that a mini-buzzer or similar device would be a better option than the horn doing a blast. Right now, I've got it turned off, but it would great to have something audible that won't cause seniors in a parking lot to mess up their 'Depends'!

Good Idea!

That is a good idea, Dr Taz! A low-volume "chirp" would be good. The horn can be annoying and--as you said--has the potential of frightening people.

I would have to look at the schematic, but it doesnt sound too hard to do. There is probably a wire that turns on the horn relay, only when chirping the locks. Redirecting this wire to a separate relay, controlling a quieter noise maker wouldnt be too hard if you know where everything is. If anyone can provide a wire diagram that shows the horn circuit, I can help draw up a "quiet chirp" circuit tied into it.

Good Idea!:Racing:

having purchased a keyless entry kit for my other car I know that one has a wire I was suppose to run for the horn, (I didn't) So I'm sure the same thing is on the Nitro. Main problem might be the control box for the keyless entry may not provide enough voltage to activate another device. The current control I'm sure just provides a ground source. If you figure it out lets us know.

Has anyone found how to do this? I sometimes work late and our bedroom is next to our drive. I hate to wake the little lady up when I lock the doors. She is a very light sleeper.

I was just wondering is all. I had to have the factory alarm cut out of mine so I don't know if locking the doors with the key fob is what sets the alarm only or if locking the doors with the power locks works too, for those with the factory alarms.

Is there a setting in the EVIC center that you can turn off the chirp or was that just for the flashing the headlights when the doors/alarm is locked and set? Been so long since I did all that I don't remember!

I thought I was the only one who was bothered by this. I have it turned off so I don't wake the neighbors when I get home late. Another annoyance is There's no way to modulate the horn for a light beep...like when you want to just get someones attention. Every other car I've owned let me lightly touch the horn for a polite "toot", but no mater how carefully I finesse the Nitros' horn, it lets out an alarming blast.

It was in the EVIC menu under personal settings. If yours isn't equiped with EVIC, stand outside the car and hold down the lock button on the fob for at least 4 seconds and then hold down the panic button. Release both at the same time.
Thank you, Thank you. I had to hold down the lock button for 6 Sec. for it to work, But it did. I hate that D#*n horn. Thanks again.:rep:

Still annoying ... anybody have any insight on being able to use the horn-on-lock function without having the extremely loud blast? I've had this feature off for a long time, and have to turn it back on, because I must have NOT locked it, and somebody has permanently borrowed something from my vehicle . . . :shakehead:
