I think the question is really what is the biggest tire size. (period) with the shape of the front wheel wells, a lift kit will not increase the size of the space available for your tires.

I believe the max size you can get in there without major modification is about 29 3/4" total circumference. This is because the lower part of the front wheel well is narrower than the center. I think in fact, you might squeeze another 1/4" if you lower the car.

The big issue is the pinch weld that is at the rear of the tire less than a 1/4" behind the plastic inner well. It prevents you from modifying the plastic to allow a bigger tire. Some have ground it off and sealed it up to get another 3/4" of room for the tires but I am not really sure the value of that. I suppose it is up to you.

Good luck.

In speaking with a local GM of an established rim/tire shop in my area, he is convinced that with 22's one could go with P265-40-R22's on that vehicle

hello all, I am a new nitro owner.
I have the small wheels and tires and I must have the the bigger oem 20's
what is involved as far as mechanical on this to make it work. what all has to be modified and what are the cons to doing this. I know the pros already.

Easy......Buy a set of dealer Take Off's. You should be able to get a set with tires around 1500.00. Also do a search, I know a member her has a set of non-OEM 's for sale right now. (<maybe after you go to the Newbie Section and introduce yourself to the forum members :)). Hope this helps and Welcome to the Forums from CA.
