We've had our Nitro a couple months now and noticed a few weeks ago that the rear brake light wasn't working and also when you pushed the brake, the backup lights came on. At any rate, we took it to the dealer to fix and they ended up telling us that the part needed (brake light socket wiring harness - or something) wouldn't be available until February!

I called Chrysler customer support and they forwarded "my case" to the appropriate parties for review - a lot of good that should do.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I mean I can't drive around with a brake light out for 3 months. I think my next call will be to my salesman - if they can't get the part, I want them to take the part out of a Nitro on the lot...

I find this a very interesting problem. I'm curious does the center high mount brake light still work normally? It almost seems to me that there is a bad ground. The high mount brake uses ground G301 and is entirely separate from the taillights. The taillights, however, use ground G300. Are you aware if the vehicle was scanned with the StarSCAN and if there were any diagnostic codes? I could be completely wrong considering you mention the dealership ordered a brake light socket. Just a few random thoughts.

NitroTech - The upper brake light is the one not working I believe. I think the issue is connected to the turn signal as I notice the ticker sound will speed up at times. I don't know it is was scanned as you asked or not and don't know of any codes.

UPDATE: I called my dealership service dept again to check on the "status" - and they basically told me again that the part won't be available until after the 1st of the year and told me to call the 1-800# for Chrysler. I asked him if he could take a part out of a car in stock and he said that they really can't do that. I'll try calling Chrysler again on Monday but I don't think that will help. Anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Lee

UPDATE: I finally gave my salesman a call on Monday and told him of the problem. Today I received a call back informing me that the part has been delivered to the dealership and am scheduled for next Monday to have it repaired. I'm not exactly sure what transpired between Monday and today but am just glad it's finally getting fixed!

Who says sales people are all slimy? =]

My Nitro had a defective center brake light from day one. Seems to me that that should have been caught in the "dealer prep." The part is in stock and will be fixed Jan. 3rd (hopefully). Also the black roof railings are pulling loose. Anyone have that problem>

Hi Boomur and welcome to the forums. Go over to the Newbie section and introduce yourself.

As far as the roof rails lifting, it's a fairly common problem on the Nitro's. If you look in the Mechanical Problems and Questions section there's an active thread about just that issue. Your dealer should give you some relief if it's still under warranty.

Hang around and enjoy the forum. You can get all kinds of answers to your questions as well as ideas for mods. The people here are helpful and very easy going.

Bulbs burned out

I replaced the left brake lightbulb two months ago, and now the right bulb burned out. I have had my Nitro for 13 months now. Seems like too short a time to have to replace bulbs. Anyone else have this problem.
