Bug Shield Question

Hey all, I just installed the chrome bug shield and it looks great. The only down side is as im driving around 60-70 mph especially on windy days, my hood moves up and down alot like its going to blow right off. Just wondering if any one else has noticed this. I never really looked at my hood before i put on the bug shield so this may have been going on all along. Anyone else notice alot of movement on there hood with or with out the bug shield?

I just got my Chrome Shield as well, havent installed it yet because I just got 3M Scotchguard Protective film put on and need to let it set for a while. Anyways I do not as of right now see my hood moving up or down... I just back with more info when I install it. Probaby after I get my truck wash and on Wednesday...
Hey Guys...post some pics to show the rest of us why we need to have that! Especially the chrome!
That would be great, thanks for the feedback. It looks good spo! Ill post some pics ASAP.
It almost sounds like your hood isn't getting latched all the way since the install. Since I've never seen your rig though, it's all a guess.
There are two stand-offs on the front corners of the hood. You should be able to screw the hood latch in & the stand-offs out a bit. This will secure the hood a bit better so it doesn't move at all.
To a side note for those of you that don't know is that the chrome bug shield requires drilling. Not sure about the black one though. I finally got a chance to wash my car and put on my shield on but drilling is a no go for me right now. I prob do it after school today and may take pics.
I checked the latch and i was good. I removed the bug shield today and its good. no hood movement. Im guessing i installed it wrong but how hard could it be. center, even both sides, drill and screw. Going to leave it off for now.
Here's some pictures of the chrome version installed on my black Nitro.

So theres no chance the thickness of the bug shield is preventing the hood from latching all the way? I bet it's hitting somewhere causing the hood to only partially latch.
The shield looks great. I wonder what they look like for an RT model though. Thanks for the pics!

Hey sean. I'm not sure if it's the same thing or not, but I have noticed my hood, not really bouncing, but more like if there was a gust of wind blowing under the hood pushing it up more in the middle of the hood. This is usually when I'm on the thruway in a stretch where the speed limit is 65. I do also have the bug deflector, but it was factory installed, so I can't compare. I do know that I've have the truck up to 90, and my hood is still attached. :D My last vehicle barely made it to 80, so I got a little scared and slowed down. heh.
The hood closing all the way was my first thought too. I checked it up and down, opened and closed it a dozen times. it was closing good. I think some how or another i installed it off just enough to change the aerodynamics of the hood. Like there was increaed airflow under the hood pushing up. It looked great ill prob let the dealership put it on and pay them the extra few bucks vs drilling more holes. Seemed like such a simple install. Installed the black runners and the chrome gass door the same day. Everything looks great. Looks great Joeb, nothing better then chrome on black.
Hey ree, Thats exactly what i was experiencing. The movement was most noticible on the middle of the hood towards the winshield. Its been fairly windy here in fl altely wich doesnt help the situation. Although i dont think the hood was going to come off, i dont think all that movement could be good for anything. Sence i removed the bug shield i have no movement. LOL I guess i wont be having the dealership install either.
Dramatic change in aerodynamics !!

You are absolutley correct sir. There is a dramatic change in the aerodynamics or air flow with the bug shield! One of the things I first noticed on my Nitro at highway speeds was the lack of wind noise, and, the glass smooth reflection on the big wide hood. I installed my shield last night. It was dark on the way to work, but after reading your post, I watched it closely on the ride home. Although there was no need to look close! As I was approaching my cruising speed it started. My hood is latched securely. The movement is not at the front, the shield does not flex, the edges of the hood are motionless.........But, the center area flexes like a sheet in the breeze!
The windshield washer buttons jump up and down from an eighth to three sixteenths of an inch. You can just picture the air rolling over the hood.

I'm not at all sure I like this. Surely Dodge tested this product?

My daily commute to work is 130 miles round trip. All but 3-4 miles of that is Interstate travel. Here in the Sunny South we typically run 80 mph. At 80 there is enough flex in the sheet metal that I am concerned about damage.
Has anyone gotten "offical" word from a dealer/Dodge about this phenomenon?

my hood moves up & down at about 65 no bug shield and i've checked the hood latch but it keeps in beat with the studder even after tsb
Yeah my hood does this as well... to me its not noticebale until you look very closely. I still havent install my shield yet, I hate drilling holes but prob do it today ...
K12 you described it to a T. The winshield fluid spray nozzles on the hood where most noticible. When i first posted on this we had high winds and the hood movement was close to 3/4 of an inch at dead center of my hood close to the windshield. Just as you said its not really something you have to look closely for, its very noticible. My biggest concern where the long term effects of driving around like this. Ive sence removed the bug shield and theres little to no movement at all. I looked around but didnt find any issues on this what so ever, from dodge or mopar. Although it looked great, i wont be reinstalling after hearing im not the only one. My first thought was that i messed up the installation.
Sounds like someone needs to take the next step & address this with a dealer...... take them for a ride!
I'll certainly be holding off on a bugshield purchase till someone gets an answer of some kind.
I just installed my shield and the bouncing looks like it stopped. I hardly notice it now....
Sjon if you could i would love to see some pics of your install. some close ups would be great. spacing etc... Glad to hear its not everyone.
