OK, I have a silly story to tell. Here it is, summertime, and I got off of work and was just in the mood to blast my tunes (cover of World Turning, Monte Montgomery, mostly instrumental, amazing guitar riffs and drum solo). I'm leaving the good old fire authority parking lot, and happened to pull up alongside a youngun' firefighter I know in his semi-jazzed up Tacoma pickup truck with a buddy, and we're stopped at the red light at the exit from our campus.

I'm BLASTING my tunes (it's ok, he's in a band, so that's normal behavior to him), windows down, I look over, they give the thumbs up on the music, we exchange a few words about how cool I am (well, I was FEELING that way!). Light turns green, and I PUNCHED it, just out of sheer showoff silliness. I usually don't, mind you, and I've never really put to the test my added HP and torque that my new JBA exhaust gives. I mean, I don't have a chip added, and I don't have my new intake yet ....

I put down three feet of rubber. In my AUTOMATIC. GOD I LOVE MY NITRO!

Y'all probably do that stuff all the time and it's nothing special to you, right? But I was amazed that I had that much JAM! I mean, it's very poor behavior in these days of high gas $ and the need to conserve and all that -- but DO YA DO IT?

I have never done it in our Nitro as it is my wife driving it most of the time and I guess I haven't done it in my truck lately... I guess I have just grown up.

It does bring back memories and thoughts of doing it again until... 3.87 a gallon.

I do have a good story from my youth (5-6 years ago) involving a Camaro, Firebird, and a Dodge Dakota involving burning rubber. Back in my junior year of high school myself and about 15 other people were involved in a car wash fundraiser at one of the local gas stations to help raise money for our marching band.

After one or two cars we really started getting the traffic so the parents asked everybody who had parked close to the car washing to move to the parking lot next door so we can get to more cars.

One of my friends had a pretty new Camaro (silver and fast) was the first to leave and as she left she accidentally hit the water and soap at the exit and as she turned right her tires slid a little but no big deal. I was next in my older Firebird... (thought I was the Bandit) and as I left I had seen what she did so I just floored it. As I pulled onto the main street I was looking back at the station, I was sideways so I turned the wheel, floored it, fishtailed, and got it corrected. I was walking back to a lot of cheers from my buddies. The next one to leave was in his Dodge Dakota (by the way I hated this guy, my buddies and I always were doing something to make him mad). I knew he was going to try the same thing and he did. As he left he got sideways but he ended up jumping the curb and hitting a guide wire to the electrical pole. He said he hit the gas instead of the brake. I do feel bad now but my buddies and I were laughing so hard (after we ran to see if he was okay I swear) and his dad had to take him home.

I know! Trust me, I felt GUILTY right away that I wasted some of that valuable rubber on very expensive tires. I did, I felt guilty about the whole thing (it was that little DEVIL on my shoulder chuckling with glee).

This is great though, hey -- cowboytruckn says he USED to do this [sort of silly] stuff, but now he guesses he has just grown up. I LOVE you cowboy, you're 23! LOLOL I have been TOLD!

I think I got my "fix" though - now I know I CAN do it, I don't hafta :) But OOH it was fun!

I put my Nitro sideways.... and I did it on purpose!

Ingredients:
1. 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T with ESP off.
2. Stop sign strategically placed in front of a left hand curve.
3. Asphalt with a light dusting of dirt.
4. Someone dumb enough to slam the gas pedal to the floor and hold on for the ride.

The ESP still kicked in even though I turned it off. It was still fun though!

Nah, don't look at it like that, you can't get your fix by doing it once. You obviously enjoyed it, stop letting millimetres of rubber cost dictate your enjoyment

I know you can't do it in Cali, but snow is where it's at with the Nitro. This is where the Nitro is at it's best, but they can't sell that to most of the US I guess. My workplace is on about 60 acres and they have a utility road around it that doesn't get plowed much. We have races around it to see which truck can do the best time. All of us are going sideways, spinning out and putting it into the snow banks. The Nitro in 4X4 with the ESP off can hold it's own against anything but the big pick-ups with massive tires. I think you'd fit right in with this. Is it good for the Nitro?...probably not, but it's fun and good for laughs.

That sounds like a riot:smileup: I too love fishtailing in the snow and seeing how long I can hold a controlled skid. Just gotta watch now; some overzealous cop could nail me under the new "street racing" law:shakehead:

But usually as soon as the Nitro spins the traction control kicks in: but even with ESC off, the 3.7 in the Nitro will not spin as much as my '03 Liberty with same engine. Probably because of more weight over the rear tires.

I LOVE messsing with the Nitro in the snow. 2wd with traction off = great donuts. But then with 4wd on, the Nitro is really fun to drive in a big open parking lot. It has a GREAT 4wd system in my opinion.

As for burnouts, my 3.7 cant seem to do it. Even with traction control off. I can only get it to slip on wet pavement.

OK, I have to admit it. I got mad at a family of jerks in a parking lot once. They looked right at me coming down the road in front of the store, then proceeded to step out in front of me. No problem, I was not moving very fast, as it was a parking lot. I figured they would cross and then I could proceed. But, NO, they walked right down the middle of the road for 3 parking sections. Then they moved just enough to the left for me to get by. When they were right next to my left front quarter panel. My foot happened to slip off the clutch at the exact moment that my other foot happened to depress the gas pedal to the floor. They sure moved out of the way fast then, and they all looked like this. :45:
The most frustrating thing about it was, it was a couple with teenage kids. Nothing like setting a good example of respect for your kids.
