It is and is not a Jeep

While the Nitro is based on the Jeep Liberty Platform I find it lacking in Off Road performance. But it really isn't made for hard Off Road driving.

My former Jeep Cherokee performed much better during off road use but I still think the Nitro fits to the real type of driving that is done.

Enjoy your Nitro.

The Nitro doesn't have a low range so it's no rock crawler. But it's really an "urban 4x4" anyway.
That in mind, it has pulled my ATV trailer thru the snow & mud with minimal problems. The only issue we had were when the snow was 2' or 3' deep. All I did was unhook the trailer & the Nitro got right out. Then rehooked it up & we were outta there.

Hey there luger77. A lot of the limitations of the 4X4 Nitros are it's street tires. I took mine through clay mud slush two days ago. I did not get stuck, but I did have difficulties. My R/T has the 20" low profile street tires. The tires were immediately covered with clay. All you could see was clay and chrome. It was like driving on ball bearings. This immediately made up my mind to get 4 new wheel sensors and mount my 18" off road wheels and tires. I had an '03 Liberty Limited 4X4 with low range. The entire time I owned it the only thing I ever used low range for was yanking small stumps out of the ground.

The second limitation is ground clearance. There is a two inch lift available if you think you need it. Bye the way, welcome to the forum. Enjoy!
