Just by way of information, you can download that manual free HERE

The first thing to check is the gas cap. If it is loose, it signals a leak in the fuel system and will trigger the Check Engine Light (Malfunction Indicator light). If it stays on, you may need to take it in, I'll let the experts guide you there. If it flashes while driving, it indicates a more serious problem and should be checked soon. Hope it's something simple!

Funny, when my gas cap isn't on right it shows up as "gascap" where the mileage reads.

If you can have the code pulled that is triggering the CEL it would be helpful. Some AutoZones will read your codes for free.

Get in the drivers seat and close the door. put key in ignition and turn it to the on position don't turn the vehicle over to start it just turn it to on and back off do this 3-4 times turning key on and off and where the mileage is will pop up your check ebgine codes for example: P0871 it will show 1 and if there is more it will show them in about 5 second intervals. When it's done the mieleage will read done. make sure have a piece of paper handy to write them down.

Let us know what the codes are we can help figure out whats wrong.
