Phew! that is a relief.

People close to Chrysler said the board, in its initial meeting under new Chairman and CEO Bob Nardelli, likely will approve plans to discontinue the Chrysler Pacifica crossover, the Dodge Magnum wagon and the PT Cruiser hatchback. Read more...
At least for now it appears that the Nitro will still continue to be produced. I hope so, it deserves better respect and Dodge should correct the problems and refine the interior in newer models of the Nitro.

If the new owners of Chrysler decide to axe the Nitro, maybe mine will be a rare collectors item some day.:D

I can't believe they will discontinue the Magnum and the PT Cruiser! I think they are great vehicles, but if the sales just aren't there to support uniquely styled vehicles, they can't continue to manufacture them at a profit. I hope they don't end up making ONE vehicle shape like the Japanese do, then N.A. vehicles will become so boring!!! :shakehead:

I just sold my Magnum. Maybe I should have just put it under a cover in the garage and waited for it to be a collectors item.

This really does not surprise me. Lee Iococa said two weeks ago that this was the correct move and he lambasted Diamler for "Destroying" his company.

Now lets see if the new ownership will bring Lee back to fix it once again.

Well, if they don't, I hope they follow through with the Challenger. That will be the car I sell the Nitro for. The Nitro is an OK vehicle but it certainly aint "THE" vehicle.

Why would you sell your Nitro for a Challenger? They are totally different cars.

Keep the Nitro and buy the Challenger for your weekend cruiser.

You will need a practical daily driver, and a vehicle to pick up supplies from Home Depot--- it might as well be a fun SUV.

Shortly after I bought my Corvette, I realized that a Muscle car is not practial for daily driving.

potentially stupid move in my opinion.

The Pt is a fairly high volume seller - not to mention it has a cult following.

I think a smarter move would be to make them fleet sales only so they could have the best of both worlds:

fleet sales by the thousands, and stave of damaging retail models with the rental stigma.

Just cutting without a replacement or back up plan IMO is idiotic, you just drop more market share uncontested.

The Nitro is my Second Utility Vehicle. I own a 04 Dakota that I use for the Utility aspect. My weekend Cruiser is a 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Show car so I don't need another. The Challenger will be to replace the 73 Challenger that I had in my youth. Both fun and functional this time.

Although I like the Nitro and enjoy the limited amount of custom accessories that are available for it, I would drop it in a hot second for a real car.

of course not, but you'd have heard something if it was close...

fact is their new engines and trannies are a ways away and no successor to either vehicle has been mentioned.

the new dodge journey will pick up some slack but in all my reading I've never seen a spyshot or heard anything about an upcoming model.

They are in a squeeze for the next couple of years so far as I see. :(

either way my vote would be relegate them to fleet duty. make plymouth the fleet duty marque or something to differentiate it. :thk:

Unfortunately, don't expect any new performance, or bold, vehicles.

They will aim at the soccer moms with the minivans and will chase the middle-aged buyers with excellent quality, but boring sedans like the Toyota Camry.

I just hope the Hemi makes it through this transition. I fear that you will see it relegated to a few "image" cars like the Challenger.

Ho wabout vehicles that share the saem platform? Will they be streamlining?
ie selling the Liberty (aka Nitro with differnt grill) instead of the Nitro
they have made no such mention. I would say again they are safe until the next vehicles come out.

they cut third shift at the nitro plant, and the caliber plant, and the lx car plant which to me means they are safe but are adjusting capacity now that the ramp up is over.

Today in the European news was spoken about 4 models: PT Cruiser cabriolet, the Crossfire roadster, the Pacifica and the Dodge Magnum wagon.
I had heard about the Crossfire a while ago, here on this forum actually!
