Hopefully none of us will ever get hit from the side.

I'm with Ken on this one...What you read Vs. what is true or accurate...When I purchased my 08 R/T I checked the crash ratings on my Nitro's window sticker... Side crash rating 5 star ***** / Rollover rating 3 star *** frontal crash driver/passenger Not Rated ...Don't believe everything you read.
Despite what they say, you are probably safer in a side collision in the real world in Nitro than say a Honda Civic or Toyota Yaris, ride height does matter, but is not fully explored by these tests.
But the press downplays the dangers of these little cars as they are "socially responsible" compared the the "evil SUV"
Interesting stuff.4X2 2007 Dodge Nitro R/T Change Trim

Ahmen Brother!!I had an unobservant idiot woman back into my passanger front between the front bumper and the tire. I was stationary waiting for a parking place and she didn't see my Electric Blue Nitro in the middle of a sunny day. My Nitro SLT had two minor scratches on the front fender flare, the air dam bracket on the passanger side broke and minor cosmetic damage to it. Her small 2002 Dodge can't remember the model sustained major damage to the rear bumper, trunk and driver side rear quarter panel. Now seems to me that is a better test than the government or insurance companies. (She hit me hard enough that I jerked sideways.) I am not worried about the saftey of Nitros
I am an old man I not so sure that would fit me very well. She was so busy checking out the other people to notice and she even admitted that she wasn't paying attention. Her insurance company paid really quick so inspite of the damage it came out ok. The local Dodge dealer has an excellent body shop. I even had them check the alignment, and all the front end components just in case.Ahmen Brother!!
I'm with you. I also feel that my Nitro has an added safety feature----loud exhaust. Maybe the idiot woman would have heard me and turned around-- just maybe.
I feel that my Nitro is safe, it has all good ratings and many safety features. However realistically in some accidents ratings will go out the window. Best thing to do is just be aware and try to avoid the many bad drivers on the road.
yes in deed, I am like a 16 year old with his first car every time I drive mine. Even when we go to see the grandbaby, 250 miles plus round trip we go in the Nitro. I don't care that the wifes beer can Kia gets 40 mpg we are going in style in the Nitro.:Racing:well the Nitro is cool....so if we have to die in an impact, at least we are going out in style right?!!?![]()
