I own a 2010 Dodge Nitro (3.7 V6) with 126,300 miles on it (original owner), the check engine light came on a few month ago with code P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire). We have changed plugs, wires, switch out coil pack with cylinder #4, installed new injector on cylinder #2, ran BG injector cleaner through it. After each change we reset the computer so the engine light would go out and each time after each item was changed the engine light came back on after 4th start up and still on. The car runs a bit rough at start up but smooths out and then drives fine. Any idea what we should look at next? The exhaust has unusual smell, but not like rotten eggs.

Welcome to the forum caw74. When you have a chance, head over to the Newbie Section and say "Hi".
Tell us a little about yourself and your ride.
That way we can welcome you all proper like.

If you run your finger around inside the tail pipe(when its cold of course), then smell it. Does it smell like antifreeze, oil, or gas? Is the residue on your finger wet, sticky, or dry? If dry, is it heavy with black carbon?

Did you have an overheating problem recently?
Do you have coolant in the engine oil, or visa-versa? Do you have lots of bubbles in the coolant? If so, do the bubbles smell like gas or exhaust?
Have you compression tested that cylinder?
Has the EGR valve ever been cleaned or replaced?
Have you run any cleaner thru the intake manifold?
Do you have, or did you have a loud lifter tick?

the car has never over heated, no coolant in the engine oil or visa-versa. Yes, did compression test on cylinder and was fine. The EGR valve is original and has not been cleaned nor have we run cleaner thru the intake manifold. Had a slight tick but went away after putting oil additive in it. Would EGR valve cause only one cylinder to misfire?

Typically no. The EGR usually affects more then one. But with that many miles it won't hurt to clean it out. The 3.7 seems to like to build up carbon.
If you pull your intake tube off the throttle body, you will find carbon in the throat. Mine gets a slight residue after only a few thou miles.
Since it smooths out after a bit, it may have to do with a gummed up lifter. But with that you should have a lifter tick until it gets warm.

I went thru the same list what May cause a PO302 it had nothing to do with cylinder 2 or bad spark wire, coil and the list goes on, my Nitro is a 2010 3.7 with a 128k, I was about to give up on this SUV until one more thing to check. I clean the EGR and replace the gaskets also replace the PVC restarted to Nitro next thing no more code. So before going thru everything a PO302 means many other components may be bad. So clean out your EGR and now my Nitro runs like a champ.
