My dash panel, located just below the windshield, seems to be warped to the left and right of center. Has anyone else seen this on their Nitro? Could it be the heat here in Las Vegas causing it?
My Chrysler 300C had a warped panel issue...they removed the dash and supposedly fixed it with some kind of kit. It fixed the warped problem but now my dashboard makes a horrendous rattling sound as if someone left a bucket of nuts and bolts in there. :i_rolleyes: I've had it in the shop probably 4 times for the rattles, but it always comes back again. Noisiest car I've ever owned or ridden in for that matter. I don't like reading issues like this...given my current situation, I really REALLY want my Nitro to be hassle free.
My brother in law just took his Nitro SXT into the shop to have the same issue you're having corrected. So far he says it's okay. It's probably just a loose clip...whatever you do, make sure they don't remove your entire dashboard. Best of luck, VegasNitro. Keep us posted!
2 weeks after I drove away in mine, I noticed the panel that covers the pas air bag had a defect in the plastic molding. The small groove in the middle of the panel reflected light coming in from the back window in a strange way. Without lighting the area, you could see where the original seem had raised edges and an uneven surface all the way across from a/c vent to a/c vent. It took alot of arguing and about a month but the dealership finally came thru with a flawless replacement from the factory Having said that, ever since then the right corner of the dash rattles at about 30-40 miles an hour in the city or highway driving. First I thought it was cheap speaker up there maxing out or something, but it does it with the radio off too! Driving me crazy.
Thanks for the photo-post. I went out and looked at mine. There is no support below those thin pieces directly behind the defrost vents. Push down on them and they flex very easily. I could imagine that if there was a lot of heat on them they would warp down. This will most likely happen to all of these dashes over the summer months. The only thing we can do is stuff something under them to push up to keep them in place.
Bells,
A friend of mine owned another type of vehicle and he had the same problem. They never fixed his rattle in the dash so he sold the vehicle. Reading your story has caused a bit of reluctance on my behalf in pursuing the warpage. I posted a photo of the dash. See what you think.
Jegto,
What you are experiencing if what I've become afraid of. A rattle or squeak can literally drive a man crazy, especially if you are driving the vehicle for forty minutes each way to and from work as I must do. The pillar on the drivers side near my left ear was replaced/adjusted several times before it was silenced. Don't give up! Have the dealership try again.
HighVoltageNITRO,
Thanks for checking so quickly. I think that I will go to the dealership and have them look at the problem. Living here in Las Vegas, heat is a constant companion, and will cause damage. I want to be on record as complaining about the warping.
