When I inquired the other day of ordering a 2008 stone white Nitro SXT CRD with the 6-speed manual transmission, the dealer here in Switzerland told me that delivery is estimated to be in July/August 2008 . I do not want to buy one of the available 2007 Nitros over here since the 2008 models do now come with an automatic AC. It also would be very difficult to find a white one with the manual transmission.

I thought that Nitros are not selling like hot cakes. So why is delivery time so long, or is this only the case for Europe? Of course, it could also be that the dealer just wanted to motivate me into buying a 2007 model.

Anyone knows what common delivery times currently are in Europe?

Many thanks,
Roland

it might be that they only allocate so many vehicles for the "foreign" markets. I ran up against that last spring when I ordered my R/T when it first was made available. I had to wait over 2 months to get the vehicle optioned the way I wanted. They are produced on a production line alongside the Liberty, so they can only make so many vehicles per day. If it is selling well, that means the delays in delivery will be longer. :shakehead:

Hello Roland,

I ordered my Nitro in September (also SXT CRD) and the dealer estimated that I'll get the car in December... Well, now the latest estimate is that the car is in Finland in the end of February :(.

Mine will have the entertainment system (MyGig + lcd screen) and the sunroof, so nothing THAT special. All in all, the delivery seems to take almost six months, which I consider rather long.

If I recall correctly the production rate for the Nitro and Liberty lines were 1700/1800 units daily. That was when there was 3 shifts daily. With the third shift laid off I would think production is down to 1100/1200 units daily.

I just read that Nitro and Liberty are shutting down production lines for 3 weeks over the Christmas & New Years Holidays. This is a one week longer than the originally planned 2 weeks shut down.

this article, from a news service I presume:
http://www.nitroforumz.com/showthread.php?t=9298&highlight=shut

it says that they make about 1200 units per day combined Liberty and Nitro and will be cutting back on the third shift because of poor sales. If this is the case, why does it take so long to get a vehicle in Europe?

Well, when I finally got ready to order, the dealer here in Switzerland moved the delivery date forward to the end of March 2008 (previously it was July/August). But before I could sign the purchase paper I got incredibly lucky. Incidentally, when I drove by another Dodge dealer one day I saw a new Nitro on display. It was exactly the one I wanted to order:

2008 CRD SXT, manual transmission, stone white, sunroof and less any other unnecessary (in my opinion) options.

The price was right also and within days I could pick it up. I would never have believed that I could be driving a 2008 Nitro before Christmas. Sometimes one just needs some luck.:)

Best Regards,
Roland

Hallo @ all

Yes, there are a few Nitros sitting in dealer lots ready to be sold, but according to my experience most of them are still the 2007 models (no automatic AC, etc.). And the dealers still ask the regular price for these, even though when you drive them home they are already one year old (resale value :i_rolleyes:).

Regards,
Roland
