I disagree

I love the Nitro, and don't give a rats *ss who critisizes it. Its a wonderful vehicle.

My only recommendation on the Nitro is to upgrade the "plastic panels" to an all leather interier or better materials if possible.

Other than that, Im a very happy Nitro owner!

Sniffing glue out of a baggie?

anybody who would write this is obviously sniffing glue out of a baggie, while driving their all-time favorite car, the Lada, down a country road that hasn't been gravelled recently, while thinking he's on the Interstate, having forgotten that he drove the Nitro a week ago ... (glue sniifing apparently will do that to you):

"Dodge Nitro
Very noisy
Lacks agility because of body lean and vague steering
Ride stiff and snappy; front end can become "buoyant" on the highway
Footwells extremely narrow
Some nice features, but unimpressive overall "

I'm not quite sure waht to make about the rest of the article though. Is Chrysler serious about fixing the issues that are predominant on the polls of this this forum? They seem to be admitting that there are issues ....

Wouln't trade my Nitro for anything on the market though, within this price point, or even at double the price. What else is there out there that even comes close?

The people who buy cars primarily based on Consumer Reports are the people who have the least passion for Autos. They look at them like refrigerators. CR also lacks credibility beacause they rate the Liberty well but trash the Nitro. Problem is that CR compared theat Nitro to front-wheel drive crossovers and the Liberty to other Trucks. The Nitro is a Truck and that is one reason that I like it and it is also why it can tow 5,000 pounds. Try that with RAV4!!

True true... I've seen that. A lot of reviewers base their reviews on what they like, not what the vehicle is. If it rides like a truck.. review it like a truck. It seems silly to compare a Nitro to a sedan... ah well.

I don't know about the rest of you all, but the Nitro seems to catching on pretty quick. When I bought mine there was only 1 other I would see on a regular basis. Now there's a least 10~15 locally and 4 in our subdivision. (3 of which are Orange by the way). Ok I realise thats not huge numbers but its a gradual growth at least.

I am completely happy with my Nitro. I have seen only one other Nitro in this small city, however--a silver Nitro I saw only once and too quickly to determine what model it was.

3 out of 4 Sunburst Orange, that sounds about right for the best Nitro color!

GO ORANGE! :ura1:

Agree that CS report was off-mark

I have a secret hunch that the reviewer was extremely fat, couldn't fit into the driver's seat, and was therefore pissed during the testdrive and review.

I have been nothing but pleased with my Nitro in the three months I've had it. You still don't see many on the road in Atlanta - maybe 1 every couple of days.

That is typical anti-Detriot, pro-import biased "reporting." The Nitro is a fine vehicle. Do not believe what you read from biased media.

Exactly!!! Detroit has been building some good vehicles w/o the Japanese sticker shock for the last 5-10 yrs and no-one knows about it b/c a lot of the automotive press is indelibly biased.

Here in Calgary I'm seeing 2 or 3 other ones every day

It seems that they're selling here. But our demographic is different here too. We have a real "western" mentality that supports individualism -- lots of people here (like me) don't want the typical generic Japanese crossover.

I found this today... been out for a week or two.. wonder how that's going to impact the future/parts?

http://www.detroitnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070608/AUTO01/706080377/1148

The complaints in the article are weak and meaningless to me. Everyone who has looked at the interior of my Nitro SXT was impressed and had nothing but compliments. As far as I'm concerned, the fit and finish of the entire vehicle , inside and out ,was as good as any I've ever bought.

I can't believe the whining about it being noisy and not handling well. Funny how they think the Liberty is ok, but the Nitro isn't. They both have the same platform with just different sheet metal. I like to hear an engine throttle up, and I don't have any issues with the steering and handling. I'm sure the after market can take care of any real or imagined "handling deficiencies" .

As far as narrow footwells, they're not THAT narrow and just fine with me.

Both the "consumer report " and "car and driver" type reviews are useless to me. I don't want the Nitro to be rated like a lawn mower; most "value" for each dollar. And, I don't want it rated by people who live in fantasyland and compare everything to the most expensive vehicles in the world. Once a vehicle meets the requirements that I have for it, the next most important thing to me is style, period. Within reason, I would pay more, or accept less in a vehicle that looked really hot. The Nitro has a distinctive appearance that looks like an instant classic to me.

I'm very happy and proud of my Dodge Nitro!:Banana01:

Sounds to me that these people are out to make it right and thats a good thing for all of us owners. I have faith that Chrysler will do the right thing here. Time will tell and I'm sure all your questions will be answered soon. I own a R/T and I havn't had a bit of trouble at all? So I hope that everyone who has had troubles will get them fixed. Consumers report be "Damned" I never listen to or buy from the results of that "RAG"..

Nitro Case

Yes. I like my Nitro a lot but is true that this vehicle was not researched completely and corrected before hit the market. All the things mentioned in the article are real. Also, I believe the forum members that complaint for others things.
In my case, 4000miles with no problem, after market air intake working fine, hood shocks working fine. Nitro owner could become an endagered species. Don't take this too seriuos, if you like it keep it, like me. From Sanford, Florida Ganster F.

new vehicle

Well... regardless of what others say... it's what you want that matters. I think all vehicles are a crapshoot! ;)

I am going to do a road test of an R/T this coming Wednesday if things go well. These babies don't last here in Calgary. I have driven an SLT with stick and was fairly impressed. I wanted to see what I would be getting into with 20" tires and auto 5-speed.

I've picked out sunburst orange for when the moment comes... I am pretty much sold on the Nitro R/T. :ura1: I've been waffling on a vehicle for six months... I look forward to taking this baby and making it my own!

First....consumer reports can kiss my #@!. And anyone who read the first sentence of their review would probably agree (nitro owners that is).

heres some rebuttal of what they complained about.....

Narrow footwells?????? Maybe only in the area that your feet dont go! Im 6'1" and love the fact that I can extend my left leg all the way out without running into a hunk of wheel well too. I think the only thing that I would really change on the interior would be the pistol grip e-brake. My knee is against it all the time. I also love the fact that the windows are elevated. Being tall, it allows my elbow to rest comforatbly on the window well when driving.

As far as noise.....Its the quietest vehicle that I have ever owned! Think about it....most of our last cars were 1980's crap-boxes. How do you compare noise to that?????

In fact....I installed a flowmaster muffler just to make it groan like it should!

so there...cr monkeys.
