I am still debating on buying new or going ex demo with the Nitro, if i go the ex demo route only the diesel is availible to me. New i can order the 3.7ltr.

I will not be doing to many miles so mpg will not be a problem.

So what apart from mpg are the pros and cons of diesel or petrol ? (Autos)

Cheers Simon.

The wrong way I believe. The diesel has much more torque and power and the better transmission. The price for diesel at the moment is really high but for the environment the diesel engine is better because of the particel filter and it consume only 9-10l or less. I drive constantly with an average of 9,8l and lots of 140km/h trips..... no problem.....

At least its a personal decision and I hope you have also fun with your 3,7l as I have with my 2,8l Diesel.....

regards,
Andi

I test drove the 2.8 SXT Diesel, and i found it a terrible engine.
By modern european Diesel standards its very poor. Very rough, loud, and poor MPG. Together with a poor HP rating.
Most 1.9D's can now knock out 170bhp.

Which is why i went for the V6. Even though the V6 is also a really dated unit. Some old Pushrod lump. It is more refined that the Diesel.
I think the last time we saw a Pushrod engine in the UK, was back with the Ford Capri 2.8i V6 in 1984 ?.

Gone for the 'ol' smokey diesel unit, due to mileage I have to do, I know its only rated at around 170 odd hp, but I am sticking an upgrade diesel module chip thing in when I get it, seen on ebay, that brings it up to 205 hp and a lot more torque..its a bit more respectable for the Nitro....it seemed a bit tractor like when I test drove one but its all down to personal taste I think...I mean if I had my way I would have had it with the Challenger 6.1 Hemi in it..but they don'r do it...boo hoo:Racing:

Im even more Pro-V6 now..
My Nitro is over 10,000 miles now, and nicely run in.

I know it only does 18mpg average, but it really does sound great.
And if i turn the ESP system off, it will powerside as good as an old school american muscle car.
On a bad week it will do 230 miles to a tank, but at least it puts a huge smile on my face. That makes up for it !.

I also like the gearing on the V6. At 40mph, its turning over at just over 1000rpm and just rumbles along.

EDIT: Forgot to add. V6 was dropped in 09 anyway for the EU. I think there is only 1 other UK member on here that has one.

I have one of each --- sort of. I have an '06 Liberty CRD(Cherokee for those of you in the UK) and an '07 Nitro V6 6speed.

I like both, but I am really sold on the low-end torque of the CRD. Especially when towing. I only wish I had a CRD mated to the 6-speed manual in the Nitro. I especially like the sound of the CRD. It has a stock muffler, but I bet it would sound great with an opened up exhaust.

thats just plain GREEDY...:chuckle: good on ya though....I would have had the V6, I have always had V8 motors in the past, but the price of petrol is getting stoopid and doing 350 odd plus miles a week ain't gonna leave me with a smile on my face.

American V8's ?.

Ive had 2 Corvettes. Both C5's. And a 88 Camaro Z28 IROC-Z 5.7 TPI.

Im actually on the look out right now for a 4th Gen Camaro. Its got to be in Red, and a 6sp Manual. Possibly the SS version. Since my requirements are very exact i might have to import from the US. Since 4th Gen Camaro's are kinda thin over here. Especially the V8's. Most are V6's, since they were sold at Vauxhall dealers in 2000 / 2001.

yes American V8's...just got rid off a 96 C4, myself, had a C3 before that, various V8 hotrods and trans -ams..was going to get a C6, but went for an SUV instead.

4th Gen Camaro's are ok, especially the SS, but prefer that latest version, looks more retro. can't have enough of USA toys ...lol

I am fortunate in that I either work from a home office, drive 12 miles to a remote office or fly somewhere. Since we have a few extra cars around, the Nitro sits in the garage for a good part of the time. It is an '07 and I have only 20K miles.

When I need to take a long trip, I try to take the CRD at 30+MPG with plenty of get up and go-- that is fine for me.

I guess I am getting a little stupid though in that I just bought the wife a LandRover LR3 V8. Fortunately she also drives only about 8miles/day. This is one of the advantages of living in NC.

BTW I love my Nitro, but I have to admit that you Brits build a nice SUV-- too bad the Indians bought the plant.
