Gas prices suck

Just got back from about a 1,000 mile plus round trip over the weekend and averaged about 20mpg going 65mph to 80mph, but on the way up to my sons place I pushed it more and saw about 16 to 17mpg at 90 to 95mph.

The Nitro R/T rides great all the way up to 110mph, but I did not push it further (yet). In fact, it is very deceiving as it feels just the same at 110mph as it does at 75mph.

I am beat, hope this caffeine wears off so I can get some sleep for at least a couple of hours.

So how goes the gas mileage for you guys?
These prices are crazy eh?
I'm curious what kind of numbers you are seeing for your Dodge Nitro gas mileage.
My Nitro R/T has 499 miles on it. City driving is averaging 18.2 mpg. Highway driving, with the cruise control set at 65 mph, is averaging 21.9 mpg. The mileage has been slowly improving as miles driven accumulate. I sold a Dodge Ramcharger prior to buying the Nitro. The Ramcharger averaged 4-6 mpg city and 7-9 mpg highway, so this is really a treat!

I've got 6600 kms on it now (4125 miles) and mileage is getting better. It just plained sucked at first but now 18 mpg city driving and just done a road trip at 25.8 mpg. Canadian gallons that is. I've seen a noticeable difference since dropping in a K&N air filter, both mileage and performancewise. Gonna do a trip up to Toronto airport and back next month in one nonstop trip so I'll get a really good highway mileage report then.

I LOVE IT!

Man you must be heavy on that right foot all the time, or driving with one foot on each pedal. I can't understand your gas mileage being so bad. I have a 4WD R/T Nitro and get about 18mpg in the big city off my mountain, 20 to 21mpg around town up here and about 22mpg on the freeway (unless I am really late getting somewhere).

Generally it takes 10k plus for the engine to actually start breaking in and the gas mileage usually will start improving...even before that. My 4x4 R/T gets 17 in town and its has about 1600 miles on it. I have a new 4x4 Dakota with the 4.7 magnum and it gets about 15.5 in the city. My 06 that I traded it for it got 17 to 18 in the city and it had 38k on it when I traded it in.

I hope they get better because gas prices suck! However, i wouldn't get rid of my 2 Dodge or 2 Jeep vehicles!:Racing:

From new (March 2007) I was getting a consistant 14.5 mpg, all city driving. After I dropped the filter in, I got 18 mpg on the first tank. I did a short road trip this weekend and got 25.8 mpg. The next few weeks is all city driving then it's going on a 750km one day round trip to Toronto all highway driving, so I can't wait to see what I get for that road trip.

And yes the filter is a 33-2363.

Thank you for your response. That is certainly a dramatic improvement. A close friend owns an auto parts store adjacent to my office. I shall order the K&N drop-in filter for my Nitro R/T and one for my wife's new Toyota Yaris.
