It's good to know the latest, thanks NitroTech, even though it's sad, we need to know this stuff. It IS scary what's happening with the SUV market and all the manufacturers thereof. The gas prices are REALLY scary! I really do need an SUV though -- you can see the size of my dog in my photo gallery <puff puff PROUD that I got those pix posted today!>. However, I also have a mountain bike, and I guess my dog can run IF I get him into shape first....

I guiltily feel exactly what desertrat said: YEP, I'm SO glad we got ours! We can keep 'em running for a long long time. I mean, if things get much worse, I'm pretty sure we can fabricate the pop-up machine-gun mods -- what were those movies that are now classics, about the post-nuclear-type scenarios where everybody had lifted-up monster trucks and FUEL and WATER were what everybody fought over?

I think this whole thing sucks. The reason I got the Nitro was because my Jeep Cherokee Laredo was falling apart at 40,000 miles. I was not crazy about Chrysler line up of SUV's then I found the Nitro. I need an SUV for medical reason's I have gout and cant always get into a car. I need the higher stance of an SUV. I am very upset about this because I was going to get another Nitro when this lease is up. The article said 1 to 2 years I hope it is 2 years in that case I might be safe. My lease is up in 2010. It figures they finally got it right and now they are doing away with it. Maybe this is why Chrysler is doing so badly. I really dont like the compass or the liberty or the grand cherokee so what does that leave me with the Commander. I guess when I am ready to re-lease I guess I might be leaving Chrysler and trying some one else. It is ashame I really like the Chrysler brand but they will lose a customer for sure.

Just one mans oppinion.

A very unhappy camper right now with Chrysler

It is in production. No longer Concept. 2 months until the next roll.
I know!!:D Had to pick up hubby at the Chevy dealer while his Silverado was being worked on and I had 3 salesmen come over and check out Blue. Told them I didn't want a new car unless it was the new Camaro, which the quickly told me was coming out next year. Oh the thoughts running through my head!!!

This is sad news, but confusing. The story said that Chrysler was hunting for some other models to build in the Jeep plant, including non-Jeep. If they have excess capacity, why not keep building the Nitro?

I think we should prepare to broaden our site and eventually change the name to embrace both the Liberty and the Nitro. This will keep fresh people coming to the site that share a common platform with our "classic Nitro". I for one would strongly consider buying a Liberty if the Nitro goes away.

That's a huge disappointment. :shakehead:

I love the Nitro...the looks and the way it drives.

I have Jeep to thank for owning one too...because I would never buy a Jeep, not since they were AMC built.

But there was absolutely nothing else out there that I'd touch.

I guess I'll just have to keep my Nitro for ever, and get myself a Mustang for supplementation. :D

It's a real shame, but expected when they twinned the Liberty to it, bad mistake. Duplicate platforms are a mistake and of course the Jeep name will prevail.

This is my first ever Dodge and I've really gotten into the brand. This weekend when the Nitro was in for service I got a chance to walk around the lot and look at the rest of their offerings. I also found it interesting that this dealership for the first time was prominently advertising the Nitro with it up on a big platform next to the road. I very much want to stick with Dodge now.

The Nitro fits my needs perfectly; good in snow, lots of room to haul dogs, sports equipment and can tow a ton. I think the mileage is outstanding too. People look at it and think I get 12 miles per gallon, when I tell them I get 23 mixed and 27 highway, they are interested.

I've only owned one Jeep, it was a five speed manual Comanche pick-up. I wasn't thrilled with it and I'm not sure if I'd buy another. I plan to keep the Nitro for a very long time.

There have been lots of successful twin platform cars over the years Firebird & Camaro, Honda & Acura, Toyota & Lexus and of course the 300C and the Charger.

Sadly, I think it was lack of marketing that Killed the Nitro. Once Dodge decided to go with the Ho-Hum Journey, they just turned off the marketing machine on the Nitro. I have not seen a Nitro commercial in 9 months.
