What the heck does that button even do? I looked in the manual and maybe I'm missing something but couldn't find a thing on it.

I'm wondering if it adjust shift points and if so, if running in "tow mode" all the time would positively or negatively affect mileage.

Thoughts.

Look under "Towing" in the owners manual, there is some basic info there.

I'm not positive about the Nitro, but with the Ram trucks, "Tow" locks out the overdrive and changes the shift points for the remaining gears to the upper ranges of the power band.

And yes it will adversely affect gas mileage, as well as, the life of the transmission if you mis-use it.

Thanks, Mark. I'm not seeing a thing on it in the OM.

In the 2nd edition of the OM, section 5, pages 301 thru 316 is where the tow info is.

You might have a different edition (look on the back cover), so it might be in a different place but it would be kinda odd if it was omitted.

I think the manual is posted in PDF format in a different thread, so you might try searching for it as well. If not let me know and I have a copy I can email you.
