Howdy folks. We just picked up our brand-hammer new Nitro today and we've already encountered our first problem. The door ajar alarm continues to go off and the dome light was staying on until we turned it off with the dimmer switch for the headlights. I'm not finding the customary door switches that activate dome lights and the like. Does anyone have an idea of what might be the problem here?

The switches are inside the doorlatch mechanism so you can't see anything. I'd go around the whole truck again and make sure EVERYTHING is completely shut including the rear hatch. Do you have the display that tells you which door is open?

I have the same problem with my Nitro - the Gate Ajar message appears continously on the warning screen - although the hatch door is closed.

I bought the Nitro since 1st October 07 (three months). This came after a long trip on poor road. I was to the dealer, they told me that this is generated by the maladjustment of the rear gate. They do something (I could'n see what) and the problem was solved .... but only for 15 minutes, of course after I exit the dealer facility. I am wondering now if they have done anything.

Probably I will go back and insist !

Any practical advice from anyone who solve that for good would be very useful, of course !

Same problem

I am having the same problem with my 07. The screen will say door, the dome lights will come on and stay on. I have checked all doors, cleaned all contacts on the striker, made sure everything is good other than removing all the door panels and checking connections. This is annoying and I cant even lock my vehicle with my remote because the alarm will start going off beeping the horn and flashing the lights. Anyone know what this could be?

There are sensors located on all the door latches, including the back hatch.
One of them is not adjusted correctly.

I attempted to take the door panel off the drivers door to start checking all switches and when I took the outer panel off, there is a big plastic panel inside as well. I could not get it off to check everything. Funny thing is when I put the door back together is worked fine but now is doing it again. I am guessing the drivers door is the culprit. It started acting up again today. In a few weeks, I am getting rid of this thing and will be glad. No more Nitro's for me. Time to go back to a Ford product.

Do you know which door is causing the issue? Is it a door or the back hatch?

I have an 07 and its saying the rear hatch is the culprit. I believe the nitro is still under warranty. My alarm kept going off in the middle of the night, what a headache this turning out to be. I'm going to take it up to the dealership and see what they say. I only had the nitro for 6 months. Bought it with 30k miles on it.

Check out the thread below, something to try before taking it to the dealer.

I am having the same problem. All doors are shut but my warning light for the "door" is on.. and my interior light is staying on...that even happens somethimes while the alarm is turn on (while the vehicle is closed and armed), so the alarm starts to horn...did anyone have some simple solution for that problem?

Try opening the door, use a screwdriver or something similar to activate the catch on the door latch. You will need to push it hard to get the catch to close. The interior light switch/door ajar sensor is built into the latch. If you can get the light to go off this way then all you may need to do is adjust the latch/catch.
If not, then that leaves a bad latch, or a broken wire(most likely inside the door jam rubber sleeve).
Oh, and don't forget to pull the door knob before trying to close the door...

Just had this issue this morning and I tried your suggestion and it worked! I will also apply WD40 on the door latches as it seems they get stuck somehow over time and prevents the full latching of the door mechanism...
