Hello, I've been following this site for about 8 months and just joined today.
My question is for anyone that can help. My wife's nitro bit the dust about 2 weeks ago coming back from a mini vacation. I got an engine with less than 60,000 miles but after pulling the bad one out, I noticed the replacement doesn't have the bore for an egr valve. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

My ductwork ran from the air intake to the electric egr tha mounts on the back of the drivers side head and it feeds down into the engine from there. The engine I got was from an 06 Dakota and it has the mount plate on the head but it hasn't been taped for the bolts or plumbed( drilled out) to feed back into the engine .

Transition years. The 3.7 didn't get an EGR valve until halfway through '07. That limits options. Do you need to pass emission testing? If not, then it may be possible to rig it. If you do need to meet emission testing, a serious mod will require tapping into the exhaust and mounting the valve. Worst case, swap the driver side head with an EGR valve head.

Your best option may be to look for another engine that has an EGR valve option.

I already got the other engine and prepped and it's setting in the engine bay. I don't have to pass an emissions test, so I think I'm going to do some sort of bypass. Any suggestions will be great. The 1st engine dropped a rocker arm and the hydraulic kicked sideways, thus cracking the heads sleeve housing for that lifter

Replace the lash adjusters. Cheap and easier to do with the engine out. Replace any seal you can do.

Can you make a plate to bolt on the valve? You can bolt the plate to an intake bolt or bracket. Can you post a pic of the engine backside? The valve needs to be plugged in so it reads voltage. No other sensor should affect it.

I made a plate for it but its not bolted to the engine. The head wasn't completely bored for bolting the egr valve but its sitting on the mount and I have it connected to the engine as far as the feed pipe going into it and the electrical plug connected.

Engine has been installed and vehicle running again for a few Weeks now. I have a tablet with WiFi and 4g integrated into my wife's system and a Bluetooth diagnostic connected to it for engine codes and realtime feed on engine performance and such. Every so often the egr sets the engine code and have to check it and reset it with the tablet. Other than that , the thing is running great and engine oil still looks new.

The EGR may just need to be cleaned to keep the code from popping up.

The plate has a vacuum effect. So the valve is struggling to open and close during it's "operation" range. A plate with small hole should solve the problem. However, exhaust gases become a problem.

Great work around!! Got any pics?

The issue isn't that it needs to be cleaned, it's that its not actually feeding back in to the engine. I made a block off plate for the bottom of it.
Ah, got it. Sometimes I'm a little slow on the uptake...

Update on the engine swap. According to my wife, the vehicle is better and smoother running than before. It runs for a few days before the egr actually sets the engine light off. I've now shown my wife how to scan and reset it with her tablet that I integrated into her system.

I'm thinking of trying to make a plate with a pcv valve so the egr will push it open to release when it builds up and see if that will work. Any idea's will be appreciated and thanks.

Can u please show me how you fixed this please. I bought 07 nitro at auction only codes it was kicked were egr. I figured easy egr switch would have great vehicle. The eqr pipe was cut off just hanging and no egr valve because there are no holes for it. Any pics how you bypassed wood be great
