I used my emergency break for the first time last weekend. I noticed when I had the break engaged that the vinyl sleeve that surrounds the break on the console was wide open. There is a zipper to close it but I am thinking that the zipper is broken. I was just wondering if this is normal on the Nitro or if I need to take mine in for some service.

The boot around the hand brake on my Nitro R/T appears to be leather. There is what feels like a zipper at the back side of the boot, but there does not appear to be a means of zipping/unzipping. Perhaps there is a special tool required to adjust the zipper. By all means, have your dealer's service department address this issue. The boot should certainly be closed about the brake lever.

I took delivery on my R/T on Apr 29 and my E-brake zipper is busted too. I will be taking it in to be replaced.

My SLT has a zipper as well. Being the nosey mechanic I am I unzipped mine to look underneath to fine nothing really. But when I zipped it back up the little piece you hold to zip it came off in my hand. So I would offer a word of caution if anyone tries to zip theirs up. Will be seeing dealer about this.

i had noticed that mine is unzipped also
i have no other reasons to take the R/T to the dealer so right now i dont plan to take it and get it fixed yet
i tried to fix it myself but had no luck
looks like i will just wait until something comes up that i have to take the buggy to the dealer.................if not then eventually i will take it in for just the boot zipper fix

If the zipper dongle (I don't know what the real name of the zipper thing-a-ma-bob is but dongle sounds good) breaks off, you might be albe to put a small paperclip through it and then be able to close the zipper.
Just a thought.

Zipper Pull-tab Missing

The zipper on my handbrake boot is closed, but there is no zipper pull-tab. I suppose all is well unless the zipper unzips itself mysteriously. I am curious, however, why the pull-tab is missing.

i have tried that.......its like the zipper is stripped or off the teeth and it wont move
mine looks like it was originally zipped but the teeth did not grab and it came open but the zipper part is stuck and wont move now
Same thing with mine. The zipped pull is missing also. I think I will wait to bring it in for my first oil change and have them do everything at one time.

Major screw up by Dodge...
I just had mine at the dealer for the shotty work by Dodge for the E-brake cover, he stitching disappeared and the whole boot was coming apart. They replaced it but had to replace the whole center consol, it was all one piece. Nice design flaw. Seems to be OK now but will keep an eye open for another disappearing trick...:SHOCKED:

·mine came with the zipper split open too. and yes, it is attached to the console, so they had to order the whole big thing. it should be in next week.
sounds like the zipper quality really sucks. hopefully the replacement will be better.

A few months after taking possession of my beloved Nitro, the zipper popped open.
The dealer ordered a new one & installed it, no problem!:smileup:
A few weeks later the zipper thingy fell off the new one ... back to dealer to order another one. A few days after putting in the order, the zipper came open again too. :smiledown:
If this third one also breaks they have "a woman scorned" on their hands!
Am seriously thinking about sending a note to Dodge Chrysler about this .....
I would like a real leather booty on there now! Not this "man-made" stuff!:shakehead:
Almost seems like there is not enough fabric there, to pull the brake handle all the way up ..........

Aside from the zipper splitting which is not a good thing, I just wanted to let everyone know that the zipper pull has been intentionally left off and is not missing. If it isn't zipped all the way the method to pull the zipper is by using a small hook tool to pull it closed. Hope this helps. :smileup:
