Costs me a lot of money if I lose a tool. I'm not sure why customers don't often feel inclined to return them. Maybe they feel some kind of justice to find a technician has left behind a tool. There are those that return them and I am very grateful to them. Its just too bad you didn't find the engine!
We found a tool - a panel remover - in our glove compartment last year sometime, when we told the service writer he told us to keep it LOL!
So what was the tool?
Who knows, maybe forgot to tighten a wheel, put the brakes back together, put oil in the engine, you know the routine things.Kind of makes me wonder what else they forgot to do when they serviced your vehicle.
My Mother-In-Law got quite a bit of money in a settlement because they had to go back in and remove a needle they accidentally left in her.Sponges!
Isn't that what docs leave inside people all the time?

Whether you know this or not mechanics have to supply their own tools. Dealerships do not supply regular tools. I myself own approximately 30k in tools and that number can easily run up to 50k+ in personally owned tools.
Please consider this next time you find a mechanics tools and realize they are his/her livelihood.![]()
As I recall I did that with my '63 Buick, But no dent as metal was metal back then and I don't slam hoods and as a side stupidity note I remember working on my '73 AMC Hornet and taking my watch off and later my wife went out and I found my high school grad present squashed by a D70 in the drivewayAs a kid my dad took our Audi in for service and the mech left a tool under the hood. We noticed it when we went to pick up the car and there was a dent in the hood from the inside, with the tool still sitting there on top of the engine!
As an amateur mech myself I make a point of looking closely at anywhere a tool could be sitting before closing the hood.:Racing:
I did that to my self, was working on my Datsun P/U many years ago, and went for a test drive. Wrapped the hood right over the top. :loser1: My tools were still sitting on the radiator. That is why the hood did not close. :loser1::loser1: I gave myself a double "L" for that!Always check when you leave a dealer or shop. I saw a lady with her hood wrapped around her windshield on the freeway a couple of years ago. Shop bought her a new windshield and repaired the damage to the rest of her car. The technician, :loser1:if you want to call him that got fired. Good ole Wally World.:i_rolleyes:
Ouch, that's got to hurt knowing that you can't put the blame on somebody else.:shakehead:. Hopefully you were not seriously hurt.I did that to my self, was working on my Datsun P/U many years ago, and went for a test drive.
