This has been in my head for over 5 years now. I love 4wheelin and I like the nitro look, it even has some of the look of the old WW2 Dodge WC command cars, just needs a low range and some big tires right? No problem just put in a 4:1 tranfercase out of a jeep, reprogram the computer with the JSCAN app, and a little fender trimming. Naturally a bigger differential will be needed in the rear, (and eventually the front), but for now a narrowed JK rear end with 35 spline axles and a locker will have to do. Nicely they just happens to use the same wheel speed sensor part number as the Nitro. Lets see what else will be needed, some 5.38 gears and a bit of fender trimming and viola, 38" tires will fit with no lift kit. Well fender tubbing and replacement to be exact. lets see how far I got in the first two weeks of actual work. I started by fitting a 40" tire statically, figuring if a 40 fits, axle twisted in the shop, then a 38 will work dynamically off road.

So much for the inner fender, below is what is left of it on the ground.

I found that no matter how much I bashed and formed the sheet metal back, about the biggest tire that was going to fit in the rear was a 36", so I headed off to the wrecking yard and found a E150 van that had a fender with a 20" radius, perfect for 38s.

I actually mounted it back of center line an inch and a half, that way the inside corner still has room to clear the rear seat, and there was enough flex in the fender to angle its outer edge forward to clear the tire.

Eventually there will be 1 x 1 x 1/4" wall tube on the outer edges of the fender with the top and bottom skinned in 1/8". Right now thats just a 2" wide strip clamped on for looks. My goal is to have a continuous integrated fender and running board from front bumper to rear.

What did you do about the pinch weld in the front? Are you completely tubbing the front well also?
I took out the pinch weld plus many inches. Tubbing most of the front as well. I have a pie shaped hole into the carpet, to allow tire swing. Will replace with a custom bent, formed plate of some kind, probably 1/8" thick to maintain A pillar rigidity flowing into to tubbing, blending into the shock mount. Haven't been able to work on it lately, several health issues, but I will get back on it later this year. arrrrrgggggh. May have to wait till my shoulder gets replaced.
