A serviceman at Dodge told me that my keychain was too heavy for my Nitro key and I could damage the ignition switch unless I seperated my car key.:i_rolleyes:

Has anyone had ignition switch problems due to a heavy keychain?

Yep, thats pretty common. Has been like that for a long time.

When I was in high school, one of the guys in our group of friends drove a 63 Chevy Impala..... it was a POS. The ignition was so sloppy from all the weight it had on it that just about any GM key would start the car. So I had a Camaro, another buddy had a Firebird, another guy had a Chevelle, another a Chevy pickup, etc. On any give day, one of us would go out & move his car for him. Not far, just to the other side of the lot. He never had a clue where his car would be at the end of the day.

The Nitro keys have an RF chip inside that would not allow this to happen. But the sloppiness of the keyhole itself is easily caused by a big keychain.

I grew up with a "Car-guy" Dad - who stayed on me from the time I started driving about not keeping too much 'crap' (his word) on my keychain for this reason. We had a Datsun pickup that you could start with a screwdriver because the keyhole was so worn.....and I think my 1991 Saab ignition was in the center console and I remember thinking 'finally' a car you wouldn't have to worry about wobbling out the ignition on.....but I still didn't put more than a house key on my ring. My dad would be proud to know that to me - this is a truth
