HELP! PA myGIG issue?

I just got off the phone with my dealer today. I placed an order for a R/T with myGIG on Jan. 30th. It has been about 7 weeks since then, and my dealer told me 8-10 weeks. I figured I'd call today to inquire about the status of the order. I read this forum every day, so I already know about myGIG vehicles that are being produced now, wait times, dealer problems, etc.

My dealer told me today that he has no idea when I will get my truck because I live in Pennsylvania, and (I already read this in another post) you cannot have a DVD playing on myGIG while driving in PA. So this dude tells me that it is ILLEGAL to have myGIG in the state of PA. He said until they find a way to "deactivate" the DVD portion, I won't get it and he doesn't know how long that will be. I have seen other forum members from PA that have myGIG in their truck, so I know this is crap. But is it? He thinks I should cancel my order and get another one without it. Will this really cause a hold-up on my truck?

There are 2 reasons I ordered this truck: 1. looks awesome and 2. myGIG. I am really frustrated. Has anyone heard of this, and has anyone from a state like PA (where you can't play DVD's in the dash) gotten a Nitro with myGIG (I know you are out there)? Should I just assume my dealer has no idea what he is talking about and wait? I want/need a car very soon, and waiting without knowing when I will get it is REALLY hard. I need some moral support here. Thanks for your help.

PA is indeed a state where you can't legally play an In-dash dvd while the car is in anything other than Park. I thought the MyGIG won't let you play while driving anyways. How can Dodge make a vehicle with options that aren't legal in every state? That's absurd.....

MyGiG is nice to have, but I think it's a bit overrated IMO. I spoke to a dealer just this morning to inquire about MyGiG availability, he said next month we should see it in mass production. Also, he tried to tell me that if it didn't come from the factory installed, that it won't work with any other Nitro if bought separate. I know that was hogwash, because all you need is the dimming mirror, wiring harness, and the bluetooth module. Anyway, I'm going to go with an aftermarket nav radio.

Thats right the DVD won't play on the front screen unless in park.Could be you should cancel the order & go to another dealer who is a little more knowledgeable about the NITRO & it's options.

I don't think there are that many knowledgeable dealers out there (from all the crazy stuff I have read from other members). The only problem with going with another dealer is that I have to order and get back in line to wait 2-3 months again. No thanks.

The functionality you describe is what I experience with mine here in Texas.

The DVD displays in the front screen while parked but will display in the rear screen at all times.

my RT with MyGiG was the second one built, i found out one of the major delays on the MyGiG was the DVD not playing on the screen when driving. they had to set up the software to disable the DVD unless the vehicle is in park (or emergency brake engaged on manual trans vehicles)

michigan is the same as pennsylvania, it is illegal to have a system that plays when driving
i have mine and it was built and shipped to michigan and the DVD is disabled while driving

your salesman needs to update himself on the availability of the MyGiG

Betasigma98, don't do anything. Your dealer is fishing for a reason to drop your order, or possibly keep it for someone else. I have been waiting since Jan 10 for an R/T 4x4 with MyGIG. Ask your dealer what the status code is for your order. As long as it is not stuck in BG status, it will eventually get built. You have probably noticed a lot of R/Ts flying through the factory listed on here recently. Some are being built in as short as 3 1/2 weeks. None of them have leather. Mine does. If yours does, that was most likely the hold up, not MyGIG.

that's what i was looking for. thanks, highvoltage. i did get the leather seats. i got jerked around all day by those guys, and they didn't even know what a VON was. i am supposed to call today (friday) and supposedly talk to the the new car sales manager about my status because 2 different salesman couldn't help me and the guy that sold me my truck doesn't even work there anymore. i was wondering if they were fishing...

even it that activity was illigal, why would that make MYgig illegal? That is like taking away you steak knife at dinner time because you just might stab someone at the table.

Alright...today was a great day for me. Here's why:

I called the new car sales manager at the dealership. I told him my troubles, and he said, "well, betasigma98, be patient with me, I started here about a week ago...I'll call you back when I find out your info." I thought this was going to be really bad.

To my surprise, he called less than 10 minutes later with AWESOME news...

He gave me a VON, and a VIN!!!!! :ura1:

I called DCX immediately after, and my truck is in D status (no firm ship date, though). So it is ordered, and hopefully will be in my garage in less than a month. I can smell the myGIG now...

HighVoltage, how much truth do you think there is to the leather hold-up theory? Is there not enough cow-butt to go around?

Great news on your Nitro. I hope to repeat your experience for myself on Monday.

Betasigma98, I read almost every new post on here, whether the title looks interesting or not. You never know what tantilizing tidbit of information you'll find inside. By itself, that info. might not amount to much. I guess I have the unfortunate ability to remember way too many of them, and draw conclusions by piecing together multiple posts.

Put all of these together, and you can then understand that owners were having problems/complaints with the leather seats in SLT and R/T models. Dealers responded, then DCX responded. They most likely went back to their leather vendor and told them to correct the issue, or they went to an alternate vendor. Either way, there would have been an immediate production shortage of leather seats. Working through issues as they arise is always a problem on the production line. However it is beneficial to those (you and I in this case) that get the (hopefully improved quality) new leather seating in our R/Ts. As for the wait/delay, we just have to grin and bear it.

I read those same posts. Puckering of the leather is what I think I saw. Oh well, hopefully it won't be too much longer. Does anybody think it will be a month or less until we get our rides (since we ordered in January)?

Not true. If the vehicle is purchased in PA the DVD will not play while you are driving. The radio will check the vehicle configuration on each ignition on.

The MyGig won't even let you manually enter an address for the nav system while the car is in motion.

disabling my gig dvd play

As far as I known my gig is not avial in ram trucks yet and dvd play on my gig
can be disabled by dealer using starscan and starmobile diagnostic tools.
