hey guys...
I bought this Dodge Ram hitch receiver cover that has a connector on the end with four pins. The connector for the trailer wiring has a round connector. Does anybody know how to wire one of these things up? I'm assuming I would need to tap into the wiring harness behind this round connector and find the brake light wire and the ground wire, then cut off the exisitng connector on the hitch over and slice it in.

Does this sound right? I couldn't find any existing thread for this.

could you be more specific, maybe a picture of the adapter? I bought my R/T with the tow package, but I only got that round connector with the hindged flap for the trailer wiring harness.

Hey John have you checked the glove box, jack storage area etc for the adapter. I have the tow package and also got the adapter. I'll take a pic of mine and post it here.

Using the 7 round>4 flat adapter would certainly work. But I would think it would look like crap. I'd pull a taillight & use one of those crimp on splices to tie in a wire to one of the taillights. Ground can be just about anywhere. Just be sure you tie into a brake light & not a turn signal. Use one of those little idiot light testers to find the right wire to splice into. Then just run it down to the front side of the reciever & into your new light.

Limey,
Thanks for the pics. I found it in the buttom of the centre console storage thingy. I remember now seeing that thingy when I bought the Nitro and not knowing what it was for! LOL!

Anyway, I wired up the brake thingy to the adapter and installed it, but it looks like HELL! See the pic:

I might have to try to determine which is the brake light wire and which is the ground and use some of those self-tap connectors that I used on my LED mod to wire this up so the wires are hidden.

The silly thing had the hitch lock holes too far from the cover part on this thingy and the rubber/foam gasket thingy is ove a 1/4" from the receiver frame. I looked at it and enlarging the holes may not work because of the wiring and the light bulb inside it too close. I might have to tear it apart and modify this thingy too! boo-ha-ha-ha!!!
