I installed the K&N filter and upon doing so I realized that the stock airbox has a tube that runs into the front grill - thing is the grill is solid plastic. Now, this may have been a bad idea but I figured what the heck, it's only a $27 k car so I drilled some holes into the solid plastic area. May not do a thing but I figured - what the heck.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. Most people won't notice it. It makes you wonder what the R&D department thinks some time. On my Liberty they had this huge filter canister that had a tiny 3/4" by 3" opening that opened up into the hood. I was like WTF???? How the hell is the motor to get fresh air? No wonder I couldn't get much more than 13mpg combined driving. So, I headed down to a local manufacturing plant that makes huge bent tubing. Picked up a 3.5" mandrel bent steel tube for $14! Slapped on a k&n cone filter and the way we went.

I did the same thing with 3 other cars and it always gave me better performance. Drill a gozillion holes in anthing that is before the filter.

Leave just enough plastic to hold the thing together.

BTW good to see another NC Nitro owner-- they seem pretty scarce in my part ot the state.

Agreed. The box and filter are large but could get more air in there.

Right now I have the K&N and the Flowmaster 70. My gas mileage sucked at around 12.75 with the K&N, the muffler bumped to just under 14 and now I've taken my load warrior rack off (but I don't think that is making any difference and if so it's like .5 mpg around town - I hope that is the case b/c I want to put it back on. Looks cool and it's useful)

But it's been very hot and I think the A/C is robbing the mpg plus I have less than 5k on it mileage wise.

I'm thinking of adding the chip to it and see what happens. That'll put me at around $650 in mods and it's worth that just to say I did that stuff. LOL.

I'm in Greensboro. Cary is a nice area. Also very funny that you give those R/T guys a hard time. I agree about the NOS. They are whining about so many 3.7 performance parts being "out for the Nitro" but they have to realize the 3.7 is an option in everything for a long time. The performance parts are already out there. They just had to be relabeled "Nitro". LOL. But honestly, I wish I had looked harder at the 4.0 but it's not worth trading. You loose your ass on those and I've done it too many times. I've traded every 1.5 years for the last 8 years. Yep have lost several asses. LOL TTY soon. :4-jump2:
