I finally got a nice break in the weather today so I started my Backup sensors install. I'm using the kit from P-Star Collision Avoidance Systems. The kit is "wireless" which means there is no hard wiring from the sensor module to the display unit up front which I am going to place right in front of my GPS unit in the center dash tray.

I started by marking the locations of the four sensors.

I didn't take any pictures of the holes. They provide the 21mm hole drill and it was super sharp and did a great job.

All four wires from the sensors get routed to the driver side tail light where it is fished up and enters the jack storage compartment. Here you see the wires entering below the factory tail light wiring.

Here are the leads after entering the compartment......

Here is a shot of the wireless control module with the sensor leads in place. Also it gets grounded for it's B-, I used the jack holder lug and a tap into the reverse light for it's B+ connection. Button up the jack compartment.....this part is complete. Step two tomorrow is the display unit.

A view of the finish sensor install.

A view of the display. My dog was laying down behind the truck, obviously would not be visible in the rear view mirror. I rest my case for the usefulness of this "toy". Another place I'm going to find this useful is an area I have to back up to a building to turn around....it always seems like I am closer than I really am, this ought to settle all that.

Excellent write-up and job. I am wary of the wires going through that drilled hole in the sheet metal without a grommet? Where does one buy a kit like that?
Yep, good eye, I wondered who was going to bring that up, and even thought of mentioning it. I'll add the grommet when I can get to the hardware store.....nothing open in my little town on Sunday and I wasn't going to let that stop me when it is easily added. A smear of sealant wouldn't hurt along with the grommet either. I got the kit off ebay. I see that they also have a reverse display that mounts under as opposed to on top now. And there is also one that is calibrated in feet. I took the module apart to make sure there wasn't a dip switch on the circuit board I could select either meters or feet but no such luck.

silly question but when you are backing up most people generally look back through the rear window and use the outside rear view mirrors, not really at the dash or out the front window, wouldnt it be earier to view the display module if it was mounted so you could see it as you were looking back through the back window?
i know when i back up i always look through the back window along with using the outside mirrors

not trying to say what you have done is not a cool set up and that it doesnt work great, just asking a question

Great job you have made, I was thinking of installing one for my nitro, but I need to ask, have you made any measuring to place the four sensors?
like how far each one from the other ? or how far from the base of the bumber etc...

thank you in advance

Hawatmeh76, I'm pretty sure I read another write up on back up sensors that has all that info your asking about. You know the actual measurements and all. Try a search for it and see what you can find.

Adot45, love the write up and the fact you got a wireless setup. Seeing that makes me think about doing this too. Thanx :rep:
