Hi All,

We rented a Dodge Nitro after a recent fender bender, and my beautiful wife has fallen in love with it. I'm looking to purchase one, but want to make an informed decision. She wants every toy you can think of with it as well. Anyone care to dream with us?

Just one request: Please dream with us using the stock options. I'll be be back on customization dreams after the purchase :)

Thanks,

Jason

Hey Jason,
Well if money was no option then I would go for the top of the line Nitro. That would be an R/T of course, fully loaded with every option, 4x4, Leather, My Gig, tow package you know the whole nine yards. But the most important option would be the colour, yes that's right the one and only ORANGE.
After that who knows what would be next?...
It seems you're a newbie here so don't forget to check in and say hi to everyone especially in the Canada section. There are a few Nitro owners in Calgary already who hang out here.

I would purchase a 2WD R/T if you can find one, in fact search cars.com for a pre-owned with 1000-3000 miles on if you can, see if any are local.

The 4x4 is a single speed 4wd system, not the most sophiscated, plus the vehicle doesn't have the best clearance or support for very rugged 4x4 tires. The 2WD with all the computers is good for most conditions.

I really like mine, my only regret is I had wanted leather seats, I can only imagine how long it would have taken to get them. I have really not seen many in our area, I have yet to even see the orange. Personally I like the grille on the other models better than mine, but I let my husband pick it out. The navigation system would have been really nice, but I'm still amazed by the radio. Have fun shopping it is a fun vehicle.

You can have leather seats installed for about 1,000.00 Please see my earlier post for pictures of my Nitro 2-tone leather seats.

If money is no concern, the choice is obvious. Get the most power, nicest interior, color of your choice. R/T all the way baby!
Now get realistic. Does leather work for your lifestyle? I imagine 4wd would be an absolute necessity in Canada (I'm in Washington & it was needed more than a few times in the snow). If your a big stereo buff, you might look into the MyGig alternatives that do it one better. And you can easily get a LOT nicer rims than the 20" hubcaps that come stock.

One non stock option is Dark Glasses, yep thats right you need a disguise. The Nitro is so new in Australia, people are stopping me everywhere i go, 6:30 am the other morning while I was parking to catch the train.
Whatever you go for i hope you will be as happy as my family, We don't get the RT in OZ :shakehead:, but then I am in Orlando next month so maybe I can hire one . Enjoy

If money was no problem I'd probably look into a fairly loaded RT but then put REAL leather seats in it and probably recover the door panels with real leather as well. Nicer set of rims, a turbo charger, full exhaust, nice stereo and DVD system too. Heck, I'd probably paint it some real cool color like all those show Nitros you see at the top of the page:D

I love mine, but if money were no object then I would own 3 nitros, one for the hubby and one for the 16 year old.

I happen to have an R/T and recently installed the MyGig. All I have left is to add the U-Connect and I'll have exactly what I wanted! The 4WD is a waste of gas where I live and the leather would burn the freakin crap outta me during the summer. I'll stick with the cloth, but I want all of the electronic goodies on the inside. The only thing left after U-Connect is the rear entertainment system, but I'll work on getting those in the headrests.

Money wasn't a problem when it came to the Nitro. It may have been with a Viper but the Nitro has a pretty attractive price so we got what we wanted. I love the Orange but already painted One of my Motorcycles Prowler Orange, I had a 68 Camaro I painted Prowler Orange and Just for Kicks I had a Snap-On Pit Wagon Prowler Orange (sold the Camaro and Pit Wagon) so you see where I'm going here. I absolutly love the color but too much of anything gets old. The color is near identical so Orange was out and the next fav was black. We almost went with the leather but every vehicle we have has leather save for my shop truck. We had a Jeep (04 Grand Cherokee) that had cloth and it's much better for us to travel in so we went with cloth. I wanted as little electronics as possible except for power windows and locks. The one thing I've learned about being an auto tech is that the more electronics the more trouble you are going to have. I have enough Lexus and Caddys running through my shop with electrical gremblins that when I buy a shop truck not as much as a power window goes in it. I'm in the KISS(Keep It Simple Stupid) mentality. I wish I could have just saved the money for the fancy steering remote for the radio. My arms are long enough to reach the radio thank you very much, lol. While the Nitro is loaded up pretty good I didnt opt for MYGIG which would have become MY MIGRANE or any of the Nav features. We bought the R/T just for the power differance and the mono color (Gloss black flares, Black Grille) scheme. It was only a few thousand differance from bottom of the line to what we wanted. My wife just absolutly loves that thing. If you are going to be making the payment buy the one you want. Don't let a slesman sell you one that you don't want. I've had them try to sell me one that was downgraded because it was so much "Cheaper" and try to sell me one with a bunch of stuff I didnt want any part of because it was "High tech". Give me good power and only as many accessories as i will actually use and thats what I want. I think the only way I could have been happier with mine was to delete the wheel controls, garage door opener and thrown a supercharger on it. If they come out with a Nitro SRT6 superchaged I'll trade but I want the stripped down model. Won't even need a radio, lol

When we went in to "order" mine, they found 3 in the area that was simaler to what I wanted. One was the one I have... which is groovy, one was a stripped down SLT and one was a nicely loaded R/T. The R/T didnt have everything, but was real nice. We crunched numbers and the price of the SLT I bought and the R/T wasnt that different. The only thing I wish I would have gotten was the entertainment system. But the husband is going to install one here some time soon.

I think the only other option I would have went for would have been the my-gig. I have the blue tooth in the 6 disk and thats all I really needed since Ca has that whole hands free law now. I am glad I got this one, it has the total chrome front end, even under neith is chrome :D

If I had it to do over....

I'd get the same rig....

I have a SLT 4x4 with Infinity sound CD/DVD/game system w/wireless headphones for the monsters in the back seat & blue tooth (works great!), sunroof, chrome 17" wheels, tow package. I got the heated leather seats and they have been great this summer. She handled last winter, I didn't need to cable up. MyGig wasn't out when I bought mine, that might be the only difference, but I love the system I have now. I don't know how much of a difference a Hemi would make, my 3.7 kicks.

I feel that there were many things that should have come standard that didn't; roof rack rails (this is a no-brainer, jeez), a cargo cover, and cargo net of some sort.

Smart Man!

Money was not an issue to me and I purchased a loaded SXT an added leather at the dealer.

Reason---- Had to have the 6 speed
I love my R/T and don't really mind the automatic 5speed trans, but manual transmissions are the only way to really fully enjoy a driving experience. I had an SXT on order, but tired of the wait.

Go ORANGE!!!
