I live in Eastern Canada.....I was having the old remote start problem...so I called another Dodge dealer....said I was having problems and could they take care of it.....I was told nope take it to the dealer where you bought it. So I said, is this because it was a remote start problem....and this guy Paul says no.....their dealer policy is if you didn't buy it there they don't have to service it....warranty or not. WOW....this can't be can it....so I called Chrysler Canada and asked them.....the lady says that because the dealer is independently owned they can make their own rules and cannot be forced too. So much for bumper to bumper warranty.....don't get caught too far from your dealer down this way.....what a load of crap......

anyone had this happen?????????

Talk about short sighted. I don't know if the re-imbursement from Dodge is so bad that they only want to take the hit on their own customers or what, but to me it's just plain stupid. They've lost you as a future customer and anybody else you tell. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I expected that the warranty, being through Chrysler, was to be upheld BY Chrysler - not the dealer itself. Therefore wouldn't that make the dealer bound legally to service the vehicle?
Not that you would want to use them after this experience, but I bet you could push the issue.

Wierd.
I bought my Nitro from a dealer 4 hours away because the local dealer is a jerk with respect to sales.
HOWEVER, they have been awazing for service and don't care where I bought the vehicle. They are just happy that they will be getting my service & parts business for the next 10 years.
Now that is SMART!

it is in their own best interest to do all the service work they can.

If they aren't interested in making money, then I would think they are not worth using anyways.

I'd get it serviced elsewhere, save your receipts and after a year go in and see the service manager there and say:

"here is the money you lost by being an a**hole, in addition to me telling everyone I know how much of an a**hole you are."

My Father has been a GM mechanic since I can remeber and I have never heard him tell such a story. Unless, Dodge or for that fact Canada have some different, crazy rules, I think it is B.S. You would think the dealership would welcome your work, so that when that vehicle starts to age they can work on getting you into a new one.

I live in Fredericton NB and I bought mine at a dealership in Toronto (flew there to buy it and drove it back here). The dealership here is more than happy when I bring mine in for warranty work, recalls, or oil changes. Very friendly and very professional.

I think you're just unlucky to have that specific dealserhsip in your hometown. :( Hopefully you're not too far from a friendlier, more professional dealer?

Wow, that's terrible. The dealer I bought mine at sucked for service (charged me for oil even though I brought my own, took 3 hours to change it with appointment, promised a refund that I never got). So now I go to another dealer, and it's the best dealer service I have ever experienced of any make.

It's that kind of mentality that pushes people away from certain brands of vehicles......

I bought mine an hour and a half away so that I could get it throught the Costoc purchase program, which by the way was a good deal. Now I took it in to my local dealer with a TPM issue and they treated me excellent. Figured out the right rear wasn't sending a trigger message so they ordered a new one. I was quite impressed. I agree with everyone else call Chrysler Corporate and raise *****. Mention the bad pr they are getting on the forum also. A warranty should be good at every dealer.

I'm confused. I mean as bad is the economy is and how hardly any dealers are selling close to their averages you'd think they'd welcome ANY warranty work. Many dealers at least in my area depend on their good service department to accent their sales department.

I would have a letter in the mail and email as well as back it with a phone call.

Then make sure you copy that dealer on each. When you call the dealer, talk to the owner if you can, if not the General Manager and give them a report and back it up with the name of the person you talked to at Chrysler and the time. Let him know that you have copied them on the notes to Chrysler and have him look for them.

The highest award that a Chrysler dealer can earn is 5stars. Once they get 5 stars they will work hard to keep it. If this dealer has not yet earned his 5 star rating, your calls WILL be enough to prevent it for at least another year. It may not help your situation but it may make you feel better for a bit.

This is not correct. The dealer has an obligation to honor the warranty. At least in the US you could take the dealer to court for breach of contract.

On the otherhand, I would never want to deal with a dealer with this attitude. If the dealer pulls this nonsense, you can't trust his work.

Look for yet a third dealer.

The only valid reason for refusing to work on your Nitro would be if it was a dealer-installed option. Even that is suspect if it is a Mopar option.

I used to take my Mercurys and Lincolns to the Ford dealer for warranty work and they were happy to oblige.
