I installed my cai a while back, but there was no whole for the sensor so I just taped the sensor up and let it hang out under the hood. Now that summer is coming around, and the weather is getting hotter and hotter, my mpg is going further and further down. (Cuz the sensor is just hanging out in the scorching engine compartment) I was reading Sapper SLT's post from a while back about some $9 ebay chip of a sort that was doing wonders for his gas. I've heard though that the computer adapts to these sort of things and eventually goes back to its old self. Does anyone have a solution other than drilling a hole in the cai? Thanks......... Also sort of off topic, what do the 180 degree thermostats do exactly? Thanks again

In my opinion would to find a way to get that sensor back into the cai. Your vehicle is going to run quite richer aways being in such heat. Use a small hole saw attached to end of your drill. Use a hammer and a small punch to make a little dimple for the drill to start, without wrecking or scratching anything. As for the 180 stat, I would'nt bother as it's not a race car. I see for the different stage chips they require it, again in my opinion not worth the money for what you actually gain.

I greatly appreciate all the feedback, but is there anything I can do ASIDE from drilling the hole? I don't necessarily want to be bothered if I don't have to and I like the look much more not having the wires and sensor going into the cai.

Hmm. Seems to me that you can only enjoy the looks of not having wires around occasionally, when you have your head stuck under your hood. The pain of your performance sacrifice happens all driving day!

You gotta get that sensor tucked back in where it belongs! You gotta!

Two choices. Drill a hole or deal with bad performance.

What CAI did you install that did not come with the proper grommets and config for your Nitro. I just ask so that the rest of us don't get stuck with a sub standard install.
