Poll...MANUAL or AUTOMATIC transmission

Wanted to know the type of transmission NITRO owners were buying. This is our first new vehicle that has had an automatic transmission.

We have a 3/4 ton Dodge PowerRam Cummins Diesel that we bought new with a manual, and a Jeep Cherokee that we bought new with a manual.

The vehicle that was replaced by the NITRO was a Honda Accord LX with a manual.:Racing:

Mine is the 6speed and It is a great shifting unit. The ratios are closely spaced, more like a sports car than a truck. All around very pleased.

mine is automatic....came from a '99 mustang manual, but my thinking is speed-racer cars need to be manual. went w/ manual w/ the mustang to help w/ my down-shifting to add power and make a point when passing, w/ my nitro....the point is made with a visual.....lol, don't need to prove it is mean and tuff, it does that on it's own.

I haven't taken the plunge yet but am looking at RT's with the auto tranny. I too think that manual tranny's are only fun in a sporty car like my srt4 or for extreme 4 wheeling. For an everyday driver and auto these days I think is the way to go.

4-speed auto

I used to enjoy a stick shift, but my knee has made it clear to my brain that the clutch is not a friend any more.

Even if I was still driving stick shifts, the Nitro is not one I would get with a stick.

On the other hand, I would really, really enjoy a good part-time auto-stick!

If you don't get the RT, I strongly suggest you at least try the 6speed. The 3.7 feels like a totally different vehicle with the 6-speed. I've driven the RT and the extra gear and extra power make for a nice combo, but the 3.7 is complimented much more by the 6 speed.

I have never had an automatic, so I don't have too much room to talk.

However, the clutch on the Nitro is fairly heavy, but I can chirp the tires in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd... I doubt that can be done with the automatic. I really do think it's more fun!!!

First gear IMO is so low because because it's only a 1-speed transfer case, so it's useful in 4WD when you are in a tight spot.

HAVE FUN!!!!

Nice video Ken :D

Just curious, why were the logs there?
This is a actually a log bridge across a creek. The logs are secured together by a heavy steel cable. It is kind of like a big version of the bridges on a kid's swing set.

Here is a link to the whole post on this trip.

You can pretty much do everything that you can do in an 08 Liberty.

The changes I suggest are cutting down the front air dam and installing the Liberty skid plates (there is a thread on that also)

A 2" Daystar lift kit would also be useful along with some beefier shocks. One more thing, look at how sharp the rocks are. I would not try this in the low profile tires on the 20" Nitro wheels.

Mine is one of the factory kits, I think it is a Hitch Haul. I purchased mine at Advanced auto.

It does not move much at all. I have used it to haul a 200 pound lawn aerator with no problem.
