Hey all ..I've searched for, but failed to come up with, the headrest count for my Nitro R/T ..Seems the Nitro is listed as a 5 passenger vehicle. But to my count there's just 4 headrest units and NO opportunity to add another. Somewhere I recall seeing a ,probably European edition ,Nitro with the rear middle (5th) headrest. I thought headrests were mandatory? Can anyone shed some light on this issue?

I have never heard of this tale. If so, it would only be in the front seat as my last three new cars, prior to the Nitro, had a total of Zero rear seat headrests.
fcsAllan this my 3rd. SUV and the first without a headrest for each passenger. I totally agree with your statement regarding cars .My Infiniti coupe (just sold) had zero rear headrests .Just wondering maybe the Nitro may be looked upon by insurance companies as a 4 passenger. I think there maybe some added liabilities to the vehicle owner for not affording head restraints when offering a ride .Just a thought I had when I realized there were no holes in the middle seat to accept a head restraint .

hello mr. buzz, well, i never thought about the 5th headrest until now but i agree it does make since to have it if the nitro is considered a 5 passenger suv. the question would be, why protect 4 of the 5 only? i'm for the idea of having captains chairs in the back instead of the bench seats, kind of like the chrysler pacifica. i need the arm rests. the headrest will be a great question for the chrysler corporation. let us know if you find out something.

I'm knocking myself out here trying to google up any info I can. At first sight it looks like the law varies from state to state. Here in Florida you can haul your kids around in the back of your open pickup truck but you must restrain you dog.Hmmmmm go figure. Frankly I never missed the 3rd rear headrest till today. Someone gave us a beautiful Indian blanket and it matched the Nitro interior perfectly. When I went to toss it over the back seat as decoration "BINGO" I noticed NO middle headrest. If I did have one I probably would remove it to improve vision to the rear anyway.

mr. buzz, have you tried searching on www.webcrawler.com, this site is a multiple combination of other search sites listed as one.

Thanks Bud.. I did go there and what I found came via Consumer reports. Presently about half the auto Mfg. have center ,rear seat headrests. Most outboard seats do have headrests. Those that have center rear headrests solve the vision affected problem by having a fold down, out of the way system, like Volvo. There will be ,as of Sept. 2009 new head restraints mandatory regulations going into effect bringing our present head restraint guide lines more into line with the more stringent guidelines of Europe. It got a heck of a lot more complex with density, height in inches required and more .Many states have restrictions on children riding in the rear .Like 13 years of age and younger must rider in the rear seats when possible.
But what I DID find out is that the Nitro is not the only SUV not providing middle rear seat head restraints.
Cold Case solved.

G day
my aussie nitro has the centre head rest
the centre one is slightly smaller than the other two
but still the same shape
Hi 134.. Many thanks for your input into the headrest mystery. I knew that I saw a picture of a Nitro with a middle headrest but wasn't certain where .I think there are other countries that DO require a headrest for each occupant.

Thanks...Florida Roadie :wavey:
