I too would only buy a vehicle with a manual trans, so I bought the Nitro with the six speed and have noticed some things related to the electricly operated throttle. When manuvering around in a crowded parking lot it seem to die often when I could swear that I have pressed or blipped the throttle to get the rpm up to get it moving and being an old geezer used to double clutching on downshifts I find it almost impossible to get the rpm up between shifts where stomping the throttle quickly with the clutch out between gears results in no rpm change what so ever about half the time, sometimes though it seems to match the rpm perfectly no matter how hard the throttle is hit? I suspect this is part of the pcm computer deciding how I should be driving, anybody catch wind of a kit or way to replace the system with a conventional cable system?

I am not sure if all of what you describe is related to the electric throttle. There are a bunch of posts here about engine stalling. In one case, this was traced to a faulty fuel pump.

I do agree however that I like the idea of direct control over everything in my truck. It seems like being cheated if I can shift my own gears by am denied controlling the throttle.

I, like you, am an old guy and I like to double clutch to save wear on the tranny. When I finally get my Nitro, I will relate my experience on this issue.

I just thought about it again and you can't replace the electric throttle with a cable system because the elctronic stability control modulates the throttle along with the brakes to control the vehicle.

I have friends with Vettes that have a drive-by Wire throttle and if feels just as responsive as the real thing, perhaps this is something tht Hypertech may eventually allow us to fine tune.

Old guys (farts?) & Manual Tranny's

I am like you, over 50, and prefer a manual transmission on everything I drive, but I settled for the 5-speed automatic in my R/T which lets me shift down or up with the flick of the shift lever to the right or left.

I am getting the hang of using it now after a month and about 1600 miles of mountain driving. I would suggest it to anyone getting a Nitro, as the extra 50hp from the 4.0L in the R/T is also great to have on hand.

Not only that, but I am getting better mileage in my R/T (21.2mpg), than the wife is getting in her SLT (17.6mpg). Your mileage will vary of course. :Banana01:

Bearly Nitro,

Maybe we should form a senior section of the forum for old Farts like us who still remember how to adjust the idle mixture on a Holley Carb or remember when a floppy disk was a 5 1/4 single-sided flexible thing!
