Hello, I just bought a 2007 Black R/T Nitro 4X4. I really do like it! The interior is just to simple for me, so I'm looking for some kind of dash kit for it to make it look more luxurious. Just not sure if I should go carbon fiber, bruch aluminum or wood grian!
But, my real problem is, my mpg's. I was looking at the Murano which gets 18-23, but my wife talked me into the Nitro.

Ok so far I've learned there are a few things out there that will help the mpg's!
There's the Air Intake (K&N 77 series) or (AEM Brute Force)
and then there's this Chip stage 1 & 2

I found where to buy the air intake, but haven't found anything on this chip

My question is will these products really work? My Nitro has plenty of power! I just want better gas mileage!!
Also I don't want to add exhaust. Maybe I'm getting old, but I did that to my Dodge Ram and I hated how loud it got. One thing I loved about the Nitro is it's so quite inside. Don't want to change that.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to better MPG'S

Thanks You, BTW - Great sight. Been looking at it since I've owned my Nitro

There is an exhaust setup that just replaces your muffler, its a flowmaster 70 series and doesn't sound too different according to members who have done this mod. It was reported to give 1-2 mpg better. I may do this mod along with a drop in KN. However its no priority because today I was cruising at 55mph and getting 26mpg which I think is pretty good for an SUV. I have a 2wd auto 3.7 with a roof rack and surf attachment but the 4.0 is probably little worse but still rated at pretty good numbers i'd say.

Thanks Ryan, if someone that has tried the muffler and it's not louder than stock then I will get it. I'll wait for some other members to fill me in on that.

What about the chip? What is it? Where can I buy it?
Thanks

If you can deal with a little extra exhaust volume, you will get the most out of your CAI. You see, with increased airflow, you now have a bottleneck at yout muffler and pipping. With a freeflow exhaust, you eliminate your bottleneck, helping power AND mpg. I have the Magnaflow bolt on kit, bought from Planet Magnaflow, and it isnt all that much louder, except on the interstate at hight RPM, or any other hard acceleration.
About the chip... AutoAnything is the price leader that I saw. Use the "JetSpecial" cupon/discount code just prior to checkout for $12 off. I am currently waiting for mine to show up in the mail. I bought the stage 2.

These are the two very good threads on this exhaust mod. Now keep in mind these guys have the 3.7 so not sure of difference with sound. But I priced the muffler and install by a show at $150 ($110 for muffler, and $40 for install) and ya can't be that. Just an idea.

I have the 3.7L ... also looking for something that will modify the sound without adding much to the volume ... although a little bit is okay. Added MPG is icing on the cake! Something to consider!

My Magnaflow Cat back should be here today, I hope to get it on tonight. I'll let you know on the sound and MPG chenge. 10,000 miles in just over 2 months on my RT and lovin this truck.
Keep in mind that the sound will change a bit after a couple or few hundred miles are put on your new system. It isnt a radical change, but the volume rises a tad and get a bit of a deeper tone to it.

:Racing:I replaced just the muffler with a magnaflow can not remember pn of the muffler . Could not see the need to replace the whole system since it is already has 2 ½ piping. I did not have the resonator removed at the time because i could not deiced on what tip i wanted to go with. I have recently decided on a magnaflow rolled oblong round dtm tip (35176) and soon as i receive it will have it installed. I also have aem brute force and a jetchip stage 1 installed. I have noticed the with each mod that i have better performance and have had some increase in mpg if i keep my foot out of it.

mods & MPG's

my expierance has shown me that Flowmasters are a good addition to any vehical. the one thing I did notice on my a flowmasters was the interior resonance. granted I have not done one thing to the nitro, but I have put flowmasters on every car truck I have owned in the last 13 yrs. I was not impressed with them on my vett do to the vibration I got from them, and on my truck it sounded like a helicopter was about to land on me at highway speeds, but I live by the motto " loud pipes save lives" i ended up spending the money and switched to Borla Exuast ran close to a grand but I got the best sound and HP back in return.

I think the sound of a Flowmaster really depends on which model. I selected the 3 chamber 50 and it is fairly quiet inside my Nitro. The 40 definately give much more interior resonance.

The 70 is quite quiet inside.
